Those are cordless, aren't they? There are too many children killed every year from cords on shades. There is a big push to make all window treatments safer because of the injuries. Most manufacturers are trying to make adjustments, but it's a big expense. Some lawsuits have resulted and even the people making the shades have been named in the suits. Sorry I got off topic, but I just get nervous when I see a set up like yours. We don't even sell anything with cords if they are installed in a kids' bedroom.

They aren't that high...maybe 3-4 inches above the windows; 8' ceilings. Still need to install the minimal valance to the top I googled how to decide between inside or outside mount, and it sounds like inside mount is typically much more common. I thought these turned out nice, mainly needed for privacy. I've seen Roman shades installed right at the ceiling -- looks great but I thought it didn't make a lot of sense for the top-down option. I think he was imagining a built-in all around the window of the office plus the wall. It's a cool idea; I don't think the shade necessarily prevent that...

How much longer are they? I used to make them with one or two extra permanent folds at the bottom so they wouldn't look like a flat sheet hanging there. Any rate, if they're not too, too long, you could have the bottom just touch or almost touch the sill, rather than have extra folds laying on it. Wouldn't look too bad then. As for the bottom half sticking out farther than the top, the shade would usually be even with the edge closet to the room, not the back of the window, so not sure why that would happen.

We also need to decide how to split the shades. The sliding door and breakfast nook are framed similarly and in the same line of sight. The door has 3 4-ft panes. The breakfast nook has 3 panes: 2ft, 4 ft, 2 ft. Side frames open into middle stationary frame. For the roman shades, doors would be 3 roman shades because of size with no cord ("lite rise") and a pole option. Window has options: a) single 8 ft shade with power or cord. b) 3 shades matching windows (2-4-2) lite rise c) 3 shades evenly split lite rise d) 2 4-ft shades lite rise. Any thoughts on this? Roller shades would be inside mount matching the panes but we are leaning toward roman shades.
