Goodman Furnace Won't Light

Hi there,

I have a Goodman furnace in my crawl space that stopped turning on. Not sure what the issue is, but I went down to investigate today.

I did some research and have taken the following steps:

- Checked the flame sensor, this was looked pretty clean so I didn't bother cleaning it. Plus when this is the issue usually the flame will pop on for a second or two before shutting off.

- Checked the error code light, as you can see in the video it stays on, indicating there is not issue.

- Followed the re-ignition procedure by:

a.) turning off the gas supply and power to the unit.

b). turning off the furnace's internal gas switch and leaving it off for 5 minutes.

c.) turning on the furnaces gas switch, then the gas supply, and powering the unit back up... to no
avail.

I checked on the filter, which was replace this past February, and it's 5 inch pleated filter. While it needs to be changed it seems like this wouldn't be causing this issue.

If anyone has ideas or can offer advice it would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

It looks like the igniter is glowing but you are not getting combustion. Is gas flowing to other gas appliances? If gas is available, then see if you are getting 24V AC at the gas valve terminal. If you don't then it is likely a board problem. If you do then it is likely a gas valve problem.

If you are not familiar working with gas appliances, then you should call an HVAC professional.

Yeah gas is flowing to other appliances just fine, I suspect that it's internal the gas valve control that's the issue. When I completed the ignition sequence, and turned off the gas valve and then turned off the internal valve, I could smell some gas as it cleared out of the appliance (which is supposed to happen).

I made sure there was no gas smell before turning it back on, but it seems to me like that means it's most likely the terminal malfunctioning. I don't have a voltage reader or I would check what the voltage is.

As far as gas goes though, I'm not too experienced and I'd prefer not to blow myself up. I think I will have our HVAC service guy take it from here.

I have had the same problem. I took the logs off and found that there was a ball of black carbon about the size of a marble at the end of an appendage coming from the main burner. . I vacuumed that off and cleaned all of the unit. Re lit the pilot and then turned it on. It worked for about 5 minutes and then shut off. I took it apart again and cleaned it off again and this time some rust and a small piece came off of the burner appendage. It looks like about a 2 inch piece with a hollow center coming off the center of the burner itself. Is there a way to fix this? Here is a link to a photo burner photo

I never shuts down with temp setting at all ( both fan and outdoor unit) . " It never shuts off or indoor blower stops with outdoor unit still running, then you do need a new stat." One person on another forum suggested disconnecting the green thermostat wire . He told me that the control board was bad if it still ran . I tried that and it did still run. A thermostat is inexpensive and easy to get but I would like get it right the first time . Could ou please expand on this some more . Thanks

The installer came back and measured the temperature difference between return and supply. It was 80-60 = 20 degree difference. Perfect. He sealed the supply plenum-duct connections with more mastic, added a little puron (he said that the level was ok), put a few pieces of insulation back. Nothing major. I have been monitoring the AC performance this afternnon by setting the temperature at 75 degrees (outside temp 97). In 1 hour, the temp dropped from 81 to 80 on Infinity controller, but it never stopped. My analog thermostat indicates that the temp dropped from 78 to 76. It appears that it is cooling and the Infinity Controller may be reading too high a temp! I am concerned that the system never stops. What is the typical time period that AC runs before it stops? This afternoon when I raised the temp (to 82. 99 outside), the AC came on at low cooling (never went to high cooling) and ran for over an hour before finally stopped due to significant outside temp drop.

Perhaps I should have been more thorough in my description. Converted to Propane from Natural Gas Ã¢ÂÂTempStarÃ¢ÂÂ Model #NTC5075BFE2 with a Honeywell SV9500M 2682 Smart Valve. The conversion was done by a local company some nine years ago. No offence taken at all but I have cleaned and serviced this furnace myself more than several times and rest assured I take every safety precaution when working with it. I donÃ¢ÂÂt want to go Ã¢ÂÂboomÃ¢ÂÂ. I removed the Ã¢ÂÂIgnitor/Flame AssemblyÃ¢ÂÂ, cleaned the pilot orifice (Light Through The Pin Hole) and replaced the Ignitor/Flame Rod as it was damaged. This is the sequence of events that occurs at the furnace when I engage the call for heat: The draft inducer starts The hot surface ignitor energizes But no pilot flame ignites I have checked gas flow but cannot check pressure and no the pilot Ã¢ÂÂneverÃ¢ÂÂ ignites. I do appreciate your concern and no offence intended at all but I need information not a safety lecture.
