assuming your home has reasonable insulation properties and no cathedral/high ceilings, then a 4 ton size should be more than adequate.

what is location? what mdl thermostat was installed?

the obvious is a bad refrigerant charge or condenser's high stage not engaging. those would be starting points.

I would have already called my installing dealer to get back out to home rather than relying on this forum.

post back and let us know what dealer finds.

I am going to call the dealer today. I posted to gardenweb to seek wisdom from the experienced on how to handle the situation, since this is my first time.

I live in DFW area. The Infinity Controller mdl#is systxccuid01b. The condensor was running continusouly on high stage.

It is a 1 story house with 10 feet ceiling built in 1998. The kiteching area has 3x3 skylight. My worst fear is that the unit is undersized although logic tells me that it is unlikely.

It seems that there are lots of cold leaking around the supply plenum and duct connnection although it is mastic sealed. There is cold leak on furnace around the copper lines connections(I was told by the installer that this is normal). My hand feels cold at the drain pipe 6 feet away from the unit. I don't see any apparent problem, though.

Heat Load Caculations are based on 15 Degree outside inside difference.
I use 30 difference in my area.

Call the install company out to check it out.

It could be a freon leak do to a improper weld on install.
It could be a duct issue
Insulation issue
or undersized issue

The installer came back and measured the temperature difference between return and supply. It was 80-60 = 20 degree difference. Perfect.

He sealed the supply plenum-duct connections with more mastic, added a little puron (he said that the level was ok), put a few pieces of insulation back. Nothing major.

I have been monitoring the AC performance this afternnon by setting the temperature at 75 degrees (outside temp 97). In 1 hour, the temp dropped from 81 to 80 on Infinity controller, but it never stopped. My analog thermostat indicates that the temp dropped from 78 to 76. It appears that it is cooling and the Infinity Controller may be reading too high a temp!

I am concerned that the system never stops. What is the typical time period that AC runs before it stops? This afternoon when I raised the temp (to 82. 99 outside), the AC came on at low cooling (never went to high cooling) and ran for over an hour before finally stopped due to significant outside temp drop.

Long run times are good. Particularly noticeable with a staged system. A typical time period - how about 2-8pm - 6 hours.

Is your skylight low e? You could pop some better glass in there if it isn't and save yourself some bucks and not even worry about this.

Never seen welding on a residential system.

It ran on high continuously 1-6 pm yesterday. It maintains the temperature(78) on a 95 degree day, but it never stoped (Infinity Control indicated 81 indoor, 98 outdoor, but I believe that this is inorrect).

I am not sure that running continuously is a good idea. On EPA web site, it says that undersized system running continuously will lead to early system failure, not to mention the electricity bill.

Changing Skylight to low-E is a good idea.

The contracotr did do some welding to add an inline filter to the small liquid line at the condensor.
