Mixing Metals (Gold/Brass and Silver) In Adjacent Rooms?
Comments (4)ditto to what Fun said. even if you can remove the brass fireplace cover (if you can, even better) throw a large painting tarp down, get some plastic and tape off everything, within 3-5 feet, but the brass. use this spray paint in the matte black, and give it 2-3 light coats. It will look perfect. touch up any areas with small artist brush and some of the paint otherwise, mixed metals w/frames and such are fine....See MorePolished nikel Pendant mixed with Brass faucet
Comments (3)I actually just talked to an interior designer because we love the same champagne bronze color for our faucet. She said it is completely normal to mix finishes. Here is a good blog article that sums up basically the same things she told us: http://dinahollandinteriors.com/how-to-mix-metals-in-a-kitchen/ We are definitely doing the champagne bronze colored pulls. I'm looking for light fixtures now and that will determine everything else. If I find polished nickel pendant lights then I will do the faucet in champagne bronze. If I find champagne bronze/brass light fixtures then I'm doing to do the faucet in polished nickel. If you look at photos of gorgeous kitchens then they almost always mix finishes....See MoreMixing metals-stainless steel farmhouse sink with brass hardware?
Comments (25)To the OP, if you decide on an apron front sink in stainless steel, make sure to look at how the front panel is made. You don’t want a curved one. You also don’t want a SS apron front that is super thick. What Joe Corlett pictures above is more what you want. Some of the cheaper ones have the super thick apron - it intrudes into the usable floor area of the sink. An extra-thick apron also removes the ergonomic advantage of an apron front which is that it is easier on your back to have your body directly against the sink, than to have the slight lean required with an undermount sink with its several inches of counter in front of it. I like the design of the Elkay apron front sink, because it also has an offset corner drain, an advantage. However, I don’t have direct experience with it so I unfortunately can’t advise on whether it’s a quality sink or not. What you DON’T want - this apron front is more than 5” thick: The Elkay ECTRUF30179RC, https://www.homedepot.com/p/Elkay-Crosstown-Farmhouse-Apron-Front-Stainless-Steel-36-in-Single-Bowl-Kitchen-Sink-with-Bottom-Grid-and-Drain-ECTRUF30179RC/305866142, the apron front is 2-1/2” thick....See MoreMixing metal finishes in a large kitchen project.
Comments (5)I got an email from a designer. Here is what she is advising: Polished Nickel: All cabinet handles in the kitchen Polished Nickel: Main and prep sink faucets Antique Brass: All Light fixtures (I have asked her if we can have some polished nickel but have not heard back) Door handles ?? Ideally should have been in antique brass like the lighting, but not a disaster in oil rubbed bronze. So, I told DH that the 4 oil rubbed bronze on the bedroom doors upstairs (we only have 4 passage doors installed in the project) and the 2 oil rubbed bronze exit/entry doors in ORB are the only ones that should be ORB. Going forward we will choose antique brass. I told him I would live with the 4 ORB on the passage doors, as long as I did not continue to have to choose ORB, especially when it comes time to choose metal finishes for the two bathrooms upstairs. I would be happy to sell the 4 passage door handles and replace them with antique brass, but true to a husband's thinking, that would be a waste. I will not be replacing the exit doors locks as they were costly for sure. So, what do you think. If our favourite kitchen and bathroom finishes are polished nickel (or chrome in the bathrooms) and antique brass, than we should keep the door handles in one of those two sheens? Or given we have four passage doors handles installed in ORB already, would you carry on with this sheen for all of the other doors in the house and make it a third metal in the mix?...See MoreBeth H. :
