On rereading this, thought of something kinda funny. You mention the brushed nickel door knobs. IMO, you can go with whatever bathroom faucet finish you like, even if it doesn't match the door knobs or the faucets in the kitchen. I'm definitely not a "the whole house has to match" guy. The funny part is that back in the 1950's, it apparently was important to match the door knobs, in a new house at least. In my tract development, all the homes have a sort of copper-tone finish on the door knobs and hinges, except on the bathroom and kitchen side of the doors, where they are chrome. The hinges were also chrome (they are on the bathroom and kitchen side for both doors), although I replaced them because they were pitted and rusty. I'm assuming the homes all had chrome faucets originally. And it's not like they took two knob sets and just split them, because the locking button is on both chrome ones. Strange, eh? I'm wondering if it's possible to order a split finish on lock sets these days? I'm in the process of replacing the doors in the house and they will all have the same finish on both sides. A little quirk that will be lost in my home, although not quite. The same thing was done with the two pocket doors going into the eat-in kitchen - the little finger grippy things on the door - kitchen side is chrome while other side is the copper tone. Charlie horse, I don't follow your logic at all. Pulls work at least as well as knobs for doors. To some extent they work slightly better because the pull can rotate in your grasp as you swing the door open. Your hand angle doesn't have to change while for a knob the hand has to rotate position a bit to follow the knob angle as the door swings. Not that that is a big deal, but a very tiny advantage to pull. In our kitchen, there are cup pulls for drawers and regular pulls for doors but our family room cabinets have knobs for both. It is still easy to look at the handle and tell which you have because the knobs are at the edge of the doors and centered in the drawers. (And the drawers have slab fronts vs. 5-piece doors.) And what I hate at one mall is they have the letters PULL on the outside of the glass doors. But since the letters are equally visible from the inside side of the door and I'm dyslexic, I walk up to the door from the inside, read "PULL" and it doesn't register that it's backwards and I pull.

My cab maker said our top drawers will be 4 3/4" and with rails there will be 1 3/4" space in between for hardware. Springroz has 3" space in between and Christine has 6" drawers with 3" in between. That could be the difference. Out of our 26 drawers, only 8 are small top drawers so maybe I should do slab on those. Looking back I do like the look for the top drawer. I was just "scared" that without a bead they may be too plain but I think with everything else that goes on in a kitchen it will probably look great anyway! Just making sure with cab maker all the top drawers are 4 3/4" before I make a final decision : )

Hi everybody! Thank you for all your support and Capegirl05 for your empathy! The countertops will be Yellow River granite with an ogee edge. I will have a beadboard chimney shaped hood over the cooktop which will match the cabinets. I also have an pot rack that I have had for quite a few years from William Sonoma that I would like to use over the island (just not sure how that will look but I thought I would try it since it's pretty and gives me more space in the cabinets for other pots and pans). I'm looking for a Country French/vintage look with the fluted apron front sink. I don't want anything super contemporary. We have a pine table made from old wood with farmhouse legs. I did buy a kind of transitional light fixture from Pottery Barn in polished nickel (with two glass pendants that hang). That seems fine with the chrome faucet. Today I went to the only place around where I could see the knobs but unfortunatley, they only had the antique pewter and I couldn't see the Tob Knobs satin nickel. I did see the pewter light and that I discounted right away as being too light gray. A good friend of mine was so kind to come with me. (We surrepticiously unscrewed knobs from the display board, put them on my cabinet I had brought, looked at them and then re-screwed them all without a screwdriver and returned them to the board!) My friend is a proponent of knobs on cabinets and the pulls on the drawers and he found Top Knobs M 351 in brushed satin to go along with the pull I like that I linked above. I will put it below. He and another friend feel I shouldn't do all pulls. He is voting for the satin nickel knob and pull. It is certainly a bit cheaper to put the knobs on the cabinets than pulls everywhere but I don't want that to be the decision maker. My other friend likes the antique pewter. It was interesting I noticed the same knob looked too dark in the antique pewter and I don't even mind the satin nickel knob with the antique pewter pull. I will have ss appliances, this pot rack over the island that is a darkish ss. So after today I can say pewter is out, but I'm still torn between the satin nickel (which I didn't see today) and the antique pewter that I did see. And of course all pulls or pulls and knobs. AYYYY. I guess I need some kind of reassurance that I haven't screwed everything up by having so many metals. Please keep the posts coming. They are helping me so much!
