Knobs vs Pulls
Comments (13)aimless07....I don't think you're being weird at all. Pending on the cabinet layout, having pulls used for door and drawers can help balance the bling. Personally, if you do end up with single doors....I'd probably go with knobs on doors and pulls on drawers above. Knobs on doors above and pulls on drawers below is our preference for our home as I think it's easier to open a cabinet door with a knob and the pulls offer leverage to pull open large heavier lower level doors/drawers. However for my built-ins in the morning room....I elected for knobs to help diminish protruding hardware. To each his own but at the end of the day.....my DH usually defaults to who spends the most time in a certain room to let that person make the final decision....within reason that is. ;-)...See MoreKnobs vs. Pulls
Comments (16)Bah, humbug. It's your kitchen, if you want the functionality of a single pull in the middle, go for it. I have various sized drawers from 24 to 39 inches wide. I did NOT want two of anything on any of the drawers, and thought I wanted cup pulls. Unfortunately, one cup pull of any size on the larger drawers looked lost, and I wasn't sure I'd like the functionality of it. Then the folks here told me that Restoration Hardware makes their hardware in various sizes. Bingo! I chose the Quincy style pull. There is a 4 inch pull on the 18 inch garbage pullout under the prep sink, 6 inch pulls on anything smaller than 36 inches, and 8 inch pulls on everything 36 inches and up. They went in yesterday, and I snapped some pictures before even putting things back into the drawers--so I'm posting a link, but please ignore the clutter on the counters. I know I shoulda cleaned first and snapped photos later, but oh well... :-) Drawer with garbage pullout, 24 inches wide. The 6 inch Quincy pull is actually almost 7 inches long. (6 inches hole to hole): Drawers flanking the cooktop are 23 inches wide, pot drawers under cooktop are 39 inches wide. The 8" Quincy pull is actually almost 9 inches long:...See Morekitchen cabinet knobs vs pulls? paint first?
Comments (25)I've painted plenty of kitchen and bathroom cabinets, in my own house and my daughter's, and recommended it for clients who hate their existing (but in good shape) cabinets and want a change. I'm getting ready to paint the cabinets in my new house, too. It's not rocket science, and if it's done properly they will look fine and hold up well. The cabinets need to be sanded/deglossed (either will work) and a good bonding primer applied. I don't sand extensively, just enough to dull the surface. I've always used an oil-based primer, but there are other good bonding primers. Then two coats of paint are applied. I've personally used Benjamin Moore Advance, Cabinet Coat, Sherwin William Pro-Classic, and even just the sample color can from Benjamin Moore and they've all worked well. I use a brush for cutting in and then a small foam roller for the flat parts. The trick to painting cabinets is allowing enough cure time before using them. This means no closing drawers/doors all the way for several weeks, and generally babying them a bit that first month. But one they cure they are great. Unless your painters are truly terrible I can guarantee you'll be happy with your painted cabinets. And white kitchen cabinets with new counters and backsplash absolutely will *visually* lighten your kitchen. It's a tried-and-true staging trick, to use white/light colored accessories and white lampshades to lighten and brighten a dark room. If you want bin pulls vs knobs, you may need to fill in the holes before painting....See MoreFinger pulls vs knobs vs bar pulls, mixing weathered and satin nickel
Comments (2)Hello Lisa MacDonald, i don't think the Weathered Nickel would look bad. I like the leaf design on the front it looks very similar to Century Hardware'sHamilton collection. I think that maybe you should pair a mushroom knob with that cup pull. Adding more pictures would probably help everyone get a better idea of the space and what you are trying to do in your kitchen. Best wishes!...See Morenorthcarolina
