accent wall -which one - accent color??
Comments (6)I agree with Alex's definition of an accent wall. I have one in my LR which frames my fireplace and is a focal point for the room. Another rule of thumb is that it is a single wall in a room and not multiple walls. However, the way you are describing just bumping up the intensity of the existing wall color I agree is not really an accent wall. With that in mind, my vote would be for A (but excluding the DR walls). What you have described reminds me a lot of my local Pottery Barn store and it is a very good look and does indeed add visual interest to a large and open floorplan without drawing overmuch attention to itself as would be the case with a true accent wall. You should also take into account the amount of light that your various walls are subject too--since that also has an impact on how the wall colors are perceived. In general the stronger the sunlight a room received, the more washed out a color will appear....See Morewhich wall to accent and what is too dark?
Comments (4)I looked at my color strips from SW. Both colors are pretty, but with all the light in that space, I think I would do the Basket Beige. You won't have that much wall space, from what I can tell, so it shouldn't feel too dark. I don't see the point of doing one wall in another shade of beige in that room, tho. I don't think it will end up feeling like an accent wall, just that the light is playing differently with the Basket Beige because of the windows. And that will happen anyway. As for picking two colors for all situations, it depends on how picky you are! LOL In the bedroom for sure, I wouldn't pick a wall color without picking bedding first. And I am not sold on the idea of two colors just to use two colors in every space. Maybe one color in the bedroom, and the other in the bath, for example. Or the darker one below a chair rail, and the other above. But one wall different in each room really would be an arbitrary decision, not taking into account the use of the space, the actual lighting, and the architecture that you might want to highlight....See MoreWhich wall should I use an accent wall paper in living room
Comments (6)Jenna, the 'Well, duh' was a bit condescending, considering you have given people nothing to look at in an attempt to help you. How can we help you when we have no idea what the room looks like and where the sofa is? Celerygirl does AMAZING mock-ups for people when they supply pictures, so they can see how something will look. We don't know your colors, what your sofa looks like or what the wallpaper looks like. If someone came up to you and said, 'Accent wall.', wouldn't you ask them what they were talking about? Here's an example of a post that gives enough info and a pic, so people can give their opinions - [https://www.houzz.com/discussions/will-a-white-cream-carpet-be-a-mistake-dsvw-vd~5463113?n=48[(https://www.houzz.com/discussions/will-a-white-cream-carpet-be-a-mistake-dsvw-vd~5463113?n=48)...See MoreBlack/grey accent wall in shower - advice
Comments (0)Redoing small 5x10 bathroom. Shower is 36x60. I am committed to an accent wall with soft black matte or dark slate slate/cement look, and finally decided on chevron pattern ( I guess its really herringbone but tiles are so long it almost looks like chevron). Of course after 3 tile stores in person, there is nothing to be found. Looked on line forever. A true chevron with similar tile would be great - can't find that either. Damn pinterest! I am leery of tile person cutting each tile with perfect results. I want large format tiles on shower floor w linear drain, and match that to bathroom floor. My inspiration is below, so am pretty disappointed but need to move on. Other 2 photos are not perfect, but you get the idea (not too thrilled w hex but can find that of course). The third pic is interesting - dark grey mosaic? I assume too much grout? Can't find that one either! Any advice?...See MoreZiggy
