How can make better use of my living room?
Comments (5)I'd start by looking at the whole house and how you use each room. Then I'd look at what you want to do in your house and how easy/difficult it is to do each activity. It sounds to me as though you have done a lot of work to make the house work for you--you now have a combined gathering space and kitchen, you've made the den into a dining room. What else do you need? If you have small children, the living room could become a playroom. Or homework room. Or hangout for teenagers--their own space, but close enough to kitchen and other places the adults are for some supervision. Do you need a quiet, grown-up space away from the kids? This room could become your own personal retreat from the rest of the family. You could set it up so that you can invite friends over for a cup of tea there, or a game night. The living room could also become a library, if you have a lot of books. Add in bookshelves, a desk and comfy reading chairs. Or it could become rehearsal space for your rock band. Or a hobby and craft space, if you like to quilt or sew or paint or whatever. Or take all the furniture out and make it a yoga studio. Don't think of it as a living room. Think of it as a space where you can do whatever you want to do. This post was edited by camlan on Mon, Mar 3, 14 at 9:04...See MoreHelp! How to decorate small combo dining room/living room...
Comments (2)Do you own or is this a rental? The pix look a little stretched like realty ones. Since there is a rad between the doors, forget putting TV there. I'd keep the dining close to the kitchen and put the sitting/TV area to focus on the long wall. Start with the fun project of finding a knockout chandelier to hang from that pretty ceiling. Is there a fridge under the microwave? I see only one wall outlet behind the door and one above the counter, so you'll have to use extension cords and cord covers along the baseboards to have enough lighting here. Consider floating your sofa facing the long wall and TV. Then use a drop leaf table behind it for dining. You'll be able to open it all the way for entertaining. Anchor your seating area with a rug 2-3 feet wider than your sofa....See MoreHelp me with my living room/dining room. 2 sofas? and how many chairs?
Comments (13)These are the listing photos from the prior owner. The room is empty and I'm looking for help. In the dining room all I have is a table. I really like this Robin Bruce sofa that a local store has but I was thinking Navy. My husband thinks that is too dark in the room and also not practical with the dog. But I'm really wanting advice on furniture placement/arrangement. Would you do 2 sofas facing each other and tv over fp or put a console on long wall with tv?...See MoreHelp make my living room comfortable yet stylish
Comments (6)Rugs on carpet never bothered me. However, I would make sure to get a low pile rug and/or hook weave. These are from West Elm: I normally don't like TVs over the fireplace but since your couch is so far back I think it will work well in this scenario. However, with the current couch placement, the living room entrance feels a bit crowded. To remedy this I would move the side table to the other end of the couch and leave that space empty. Hope this helps!...See Morelittlebug zone 5 Missouri
