I would choose a shaped tile for sure - these are small diamonds and larger sized "kites". What is your tile budget in $/sf?

Your layout needs help. Please post your 2d drawing of your kitchen. Your finish choices are beautiful, but it's all for nothing if it sucks to work in there. Please let us see if/how we can get function in your space.

Oh gosh yes - I didn't even see the layout. DW goes on the sink wall, cooktop on the other wall.

AJD did you buy a multifamily home? Did a kitchen designer come up with the layout?

Where the appliances and sink are now, is where they currently are and we have never had an issue. Sink under the window, dishwasher under the cupboards. We actually had 3 different designers draw up plans and nothing was mentioned about switching things around?

The two uppers over the stove we took out so we can do a tile wall instead with a bigger range hood. You will see that from the large picture window in front of the house.

Is the layout a done deal? You need a revision if you can make changes. Your "designers" are suspect if they didn't discuss moving things around. Perhaps they were just cabinet sales people.

Please post the 2d drawing. The layout as-is would be best, but we'll take what we can get. This is a huge investment, don't compromise on function.

The layout is pretty much a done deal. We maybe could have switched it all up but wanted to avoid that with the basement having finished ceilings. Like I said, the kitchen has weird angles in which prevents us from many options. We have knocked out partial walls to make the space feel more open and airy.

Please just post it so you know what we're talking about. Your plumbing doesn't need to move, maybe just electrical.

A is the living, fireplace, picture window, front entry. B is our backyard/patio. We knocked out a big section of the wall where the light switch is to the right of the picture to open up that space.

So there's no street facing window at B (when you're standing at the sink, is there a wall or window to your left, above the counter.

Nope. We live on a corner lot so that is actually our garage to the right when looking out the back window(B).

Did you explore stealing space from that master closet so you can square up your kitchen? I am a clothing minimalist, so I would value space in the kitchen over the closet, but I know I'm not normal :-)

We need two more dimensions and then we can start to draw. What is the length of the red and the yellow dimensions?

Hi ya! I’m in the process of a new kitchen and my cabinet maker suggested hickory for the island. He assured me that he’ll choose pieces so it’ll be a consistent/uniform look, no knots, etc. We’ll have SW alabaster white cabinets on the perimeter. So your post intrigued me. Do you have a finished picture you can post or share the finishes you chose? my choice of hickory is making me nervous... THANK YOU
