White cabs, black counters & a backsplash other than white?
Comments (17)FYI, here are some of my inspiration photos. I love the red accents in this first one (my compliments to SoonerMagic--I hope it's OK that I'm re-posting this) but I'm just not sure if white subway tile might be too stark in our kitchen. Our cabs are white rather than off-white, there's no window above the sink and there won't be much painted wall showing. If we went with this color scheme we'd probably do something like BM Bennington Gray on the walls. Not certain if we'd use the contrasting grout or go with something whiter. I like how the beige-y backsplash in this 2nd photo adds a little more color to the room. Was thinking a subway tile in this shade might still work nicely with red accents (with paint in a similar beige shade): A third option would be to do a grayish paint (BM Gray Owl?) and go with a subway tile in carrara marble something like the one below (sorry--I'm not sure whose pic this is). The problem is I'm not sure that would coordinate well with the red in our dining room. It's also a cooler color scheme than I'd originally planned. Any thoughts? Our floors are hardwood, by the way--similar to the color in pic #2 or just a touch lighter. Thanks again for all the input!...See MoreSoapstone counter with marble subway tile backsplash
Comments (7)rmkitchen is referring to me. I am in the process of building a new home and will be using black minas soapstone on the perimeter counters and white statuario marble on my center island. My perimeter cabinets will be white inset shaker style and my island is dark stained alder to resemble walnut. My floors will be 6" walnut planks. I am still up in the air as to what to do for a backsplash so I can't help you there. I want to live in the house for a little while before I decide what to do for there. I am considering mini-brick soapstone to match the counter, stainless steel mini-brick and/or marble of some sort. The kitchen should mostly be done by the end of the month. Hopefully I'll have some pictures from my contractor since I live in NY right now and my new house is in Colorado! Sorry I'm not much help but I think the backsplash is a place one can make a statement and I'm not yet sure what I want mine to say :)...See Morealmost finished white kitchen, wood counters-need backsplash help
Comments (27)oh, momo...now I have google ann sacks and found those tiles...I JUST LOVE THEM. $83 per square foot, eh? Ay yi yi! I also found other tiles there that I love. Part of me almost wants to go nuts and ethnic and busy, since the rest of my kitchen is so simple. I am just afraid I will tire of it. Like this... (not this exactly, I just mean a busy, ethnic pattern. Kind of looks 70s to me, also.) cherry-Yes, we addressed the torso issue already! Yet another reason I want the mirror antiqued, and also not flat panes but rather tiles, so the "cuts" will break up the view a bit! I know what you mean, some of these threads get so long and I want to give my 2 cents but I just *know* one of my comments has probably already been made, but I say it anyway. Thanks for the input. You are not the only one with the opinion that with so much stainless and "coolness" I should go with warmth/color/texture. The things is...I see so many finished white kitchens similar to mine that have white tile as a BS, and I like them. I also like those pics that momo posted in her link, and they are white, with SS appliances, and mirrored BS and I think they look good. Well, I am torn and DH really wants me to make a decision so he can install. He wants the tile/color/texture look. I will keep you guys updated! Thanks so much!...See MoreWhite kitchen: marbled or solid white counters if colorful backsplash?
Comments (5)Thanks @J Inhof and @Pam A. Good question about the tones of the Pure white - I don't have a sample of the Pure White (oops!) but I did look at it with my cabinets in the IKEA store (which obviously has very different lighting). The Pure white, was very very close to the cabinet color. The Frosty Carrina overall read a slightly cream - I do have a sample of Frosty Carrina, and in my kitchen it also reads slightly cream (and the website describes it as ivory). Here is a photo I took at IKEA of 'my' cabinets with Frosty Carrina:...See Morejkpetre
