Why does my stained trim look blochy?
Comments (6)It could be the fact that you're using pine. It's a soft wood and may be absorbing the stain differently than say an oak will. Or, maybe the stain had settled and wasn't stirred enough. I would take it into a paint store with the wood -- plus some you haven't stained yet -- and get their opinion....See MoreWhy does my stain look like paint?
Comments (0)Hi folks, we had our stains refinished by a guy who seemingly specializes in just this type of work. He used minwax Kona. What is disappointing is that the entire stain looks like a dark brown paint. We understand that Kona is dark but still expected to see wood grain and some oak character come through. I watched him sand off the top layer of old poly, but I wonder if this wasn’t done properly (or just wanted sanded down enough). I will post pictures shortly but again, just looks like a dark brown paint. Contractor is swearing up and down that he sanded and broke the poly and that this is the way that Kona looks....See Morewhy does my kitchen cabinet wood look like this? is it wood rot?
Comments (3)That looks like finish that has been damaged, possibly by moisture sitting there at some point, or through abrasion from things being repeatedly slid across that surface, like canned goods. It's not structural and it's not "wood rot." You could: 1. Take a sander to it and refinish it. 2. Cover it with some innocuous contact paper. 3. Ignore it and forget about it. Personally, I'd go for number 3.......See MoreWhy is my wood looking like it is wet and oil stained?
Comments (5)We have been here 20 years but actually did not notice it was different till about two years ago when we started storing paint in there. I don’t think it has oil heat, it had forced air when we bought it. Have had several contractors look at it but noone has a answer. It is just a section of it and in the middle more and not really top or bottom. There is no smell to it at all....See MoreSF
