New: OBF Nov. Swap - Thanksgiving Treats
Comments (93)Welcome, Rose and Faye! Very happy to have you join our group. I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving. We have eaten Thanksgiving here at home for years and years and years and years... anyway, you get the picture. This year our younger daughter in Durham wanted to have Thanksgiving at her house. Because of our pets, it's really hard to get away, but we took the dog and spent 9 hours or a little longer in the car and ate with them this year. The food was great and she had set her table so pretty and all. It would have been nice to be able to stay there overnight or something and gotten more of a visit, but normally we both do not leave home at once so we can keep the arrangements normal for our pets. (Those of you with family close by, be thankful! If you have family who will take care of your pets so you can travel, be even more thankful! LOL) We have horses and a cat as well as the dog so about 13 hours was as long as we could be gone. You can bet there were some hungry horses and a hungry cat when we got home! For a few years after he retired and they moved near us, my dad would take care of the pets for us for a few days so we could get away. Wow, was that a luxury! Now to plan what to do today... maybe some online shopping? I sure don't want to mingle with the crowds in the stores. Once in a while I will shop later in the day on the Friday after Thanksgiving, but I will not get up super early and do it. I much rather be sleeping and have no clue what anyone wants for Christmas anyway. "Browsing" at 4 a.m. is not my idea of fun. LOL Enjoy your day! Comments (23)I needed additional dishes before the holidays and bought these in Nov, description said fired hotter and more resistant to breakage...sent for three 24-piece services (6 place settings x 3 for 18 place settings). The mugs at 10 oz might have been a better size if they'd been 12 oz, but I have many larger clear glass coffee mugs from a restaurant supply for those times people want a man sized cuppa coffee. They seem to fit the description (workhorses :)) although I haven't had them that many weeks, but I have to tell you I didn't pay the $208.80, or the $129.95 either. They were $69.95 per service and shipping was free. I don't know how often they are discounted that deeply. We'd moved and I had room finally for my table with all its leaves in place, much more kitchen cabinetry, and was on the hunt for several things - signed up for their email notices. These were one of the first email sale offers I received. Here is a link that might be useful: Sur la Table Bistro dinnerware...See More*New Kitchen's performance on Thanksgiving*
Comments (20)The stick blenders (another less technical name for immersion blenders), are just that: a stick-like appliance with blades on/in the end, which you immerse in whatever you want to blend (soups, suces, salad dressings....). Mine is an old one by Braun, but many companies make them now. I think I read a thread on Appliances touting the Breville(?). I know the Braun comes in different wattages or powers--I'd gotten one for my sister about 10 years ago, and it wan't nearly as powerful as mine, so didn't work too well. I use mine whenever I need to puree/blend soups--I do it right in the pot, same with tomato sauce. I love it for homemade Caesar salad dressing. It emulsifies the ingredients with the oil so it doesn't separate at all. The only time I use the "real" blender is to make the very rare strawberry frozen margaritas (I'll take mine in the original flavor, on the rocks with salt please!) and the also rare chocolate milkshakes! :-)...See MoreSomething old, something new, something borrowed, something blue...
Comments (27)I took some pics today since some new things had opened. Queen of Sweden - A really terrific rose; healthy, beautiful flowers and blue/green foliage, floriferous, vigorous, nice fruity myrrh fragrance, etc. These only came from Chamblee's last spring! Pearl d'Or Charles de Mills Belle Isis more Marianne Susan Williams-Ellis - great rose, deserves more attention And Marie Pavie - Also received only last year from Chamblee's. They sell great plants! -Chris...See More- 4 years ago
