Ohiomom, my grandma's apple masher is, I think, an early kind of food mill. It's got a metal cone with holes in it, a stand for the cone, and a wooden pestle designed to fit in the cone. You quarter the apples, cutting out the cores but not bothering to skin them; cook the apples till soft, put a bowl under the cone, dump the apples in the cone, and use the pestle to force the cooked apples through the holes. The apple sauce slides down the cone and into the bowl. The skins are left in the cone, and you scrape those out and do another batch. Then you taste test the applesauce and sweeten/add cinnamon as you prefer, and either can or freeze. It also works with tomatoes for making tomato sauce, but you have to cook the sauce down afterwards to reduce the liquid. If you google "apple masher" or "apple saucer" you can find them on antique sites. Okay, my whole to-do list is now on Workflowy. It could not be easier to use. I like it a lot. I had my kids d/l it too. I am a big fan. I was happy that it was relatively painless to cut and paste it from my docx file. I ended up upgrading to Workflowy pro, which will automatically backup my list to a drop bpx, enable me to edit offline, and also gave me additional fonts and themes for the look of the app. Pricey, though, at $49/yr. On that last point, I think they could really improve the looks. Even with Workflowy Pro's extra choices, the look is very spartan. And the themes were designed by a 13yo boy I think. It sounds minor, but it isn't. It will be something I look at every day. How tough is it to allow different background colors and fonts? Two other comments. One, Any. Do has voice recognition. That is very handy; they should add it. Two, I think items on the list that have due dates associated with them could be handled differently. Right now you can tag them with a hash tag, but I think you they should make it easier to associate and item with a due date, perhaps using a drop down calendar. Thank you, Marina Gal!

dcarch, that's fantastic...but i'm such a 'permy' i suppose that i like being out in the weather... using wood for fuel. Smoking mozzarella on the 4th will be a challenge at 80 temp, but the ice block worked last summer. mustangs, got ya beat on the temp collection...just mowed on over, then another i stuck in the smoker with the plastic sleeve still on, lol. (i should just buy the whole display rack of the cheap ones) I probably could win the 'useless-junk-kitchen-crap' contest...i just spring cleaned out the kitchen drawers and filled a box to go downstairs with all the previous years boxes... I did toy and play with the rubber lid things recently in a cooks supply...the texture is a bit creepy like my silpats and don't care for the microfiber cloths...DH wore one to work stuck on the inside back of his shirt...wiggled down to the, fortunately tucked-in, waistband like a muffin top. Find them inside folded sheets... Not many new purchases recently. Like that thermopop but i treated us to a thermopen for valentines day during their sale and bought red. It has a special spot and is not allowed outside for the grill unless with special care... So i would have to say my maple tree that nature took down over the winter... Many future cooking tools and fuel coming soon. This is just the top 1/3rd and is now safely on the ground-ish. The base 20 ft is still standing. Not at all sad as we have a large herd of them...would have cost a small fortune to have it pro cut so nature did the hard costly work. Designed a dining table a few years ago and now see it may be built finally.
