Different shades of white for walls/ceilings, baseboards/doors?

In our home, we have the same color Behr Ultra Pure White everywhere. It makes our home look bright and gives us a lot of flexibility with wall and other decor.

My daughter, who is buying her first home, was thinking of doing the same using Behr Polar Bear White (slightly warmer than Ultra Pure White), however her realtor suggested Ultra Pure White for doors, ceilings, and baseboards, but Polar Bear for walls.

I was wondering: is it customary to paint the baseboards and doors a different shade of white? Unless it is going to make a big difference in the way things looks, both my daughter and I like the idea of keeping things simple. She is planning on an accent color (called Sterling) for some walls, so it's not going to be all white everywhere.

Would appreciate your suggestions and thoughts!

i would see how the two whites look together. It is hard to mix whites. I would use the Polar bear everywhere. Flat on ceiling, your choice of sheen for walls, satin or semi gloss for trim.

It's certainly easier for the painters to use the same color everywhere. I prefer some contrast between the wall and trim, but I don't know that there's enough contrast between the Polar Bear and the Ultra Pure White to be worth the bother.

I am using BM Decorators White. No reason except it's not white-white & many designers that I have read on-line have always referenced it in their work/portfolio. In real light it provides enough of a pop without being 'torch your eye' white! Sorry - that is the only words of wisdom i have & no magic formula or template. :)

I would prefer everything to be white, but that is just me. You can always live with it for a week and see if you like having the mix. If not, paint it all!

I'm not familiar with those shades from BM. But a good friend painted her kitchen cab's an olivey green for the "frame" of the cab's. The doors themselves are black with a bit of distressing. It looks absolutely fantastic. Her adjoining breakfast room has black table and chairs (country french looking) and her walls are an olivey green. In the kitchen, above the cab's (soffit I believe it's called?) is a green in a bit deeper shade than the cab "frames" (also the dining wall color). Wish I had a photo to share with you. It doesn't sound great, but it is honestly so beautiful. When she first told me her plans I didn't voice my hesitancy. Sounded odd to me. LOL! After she painted them, at our next get together with our group of girl friends, we all stood around and oohed and aahed over her kitchen. Everyone loves it! It looks gorgeous! :O) I say if you want to do two tones, go for it. :O)

Thanks all! Yes, we have a hallway that I believe has Acadia White on the walls, and there is definitely a cream vibe going on there--one reason I'm a little reluctant to do the walls in the new bath with it against the tile. I had Navajo White on my list to check out, and have added Glacier White too based on looking at the Chroma values, though I think I want to go lighter than the trim vs. darker. (We have Edgecomb Gray in the existing bath and I like it against the tiles we're using, but it's definitely a gray, so need something lighter than that.) The room has a south-facing window with LED lighting (some in a bathroom fan where I don't think we have much control over color, and then wall sconces where we do).
