bored? blank slate - bring your french ideas!
Comments (3)Not sure if your link is to general pics of "French" landscaping, or of your property. If of your property, pics should be posted in the thread in order to be useful. Incorporating some parterres, topiary and espalier will help it seem French. Aside from having a few of those elements, you'll still be following basic principles of good design if you want it to look good. I'd focus on that and add the French touches where they fit well, and leave them out where they don't. Regarding your site plan, the way the driveway intersects with the street at a pronounced angle seems awkward and unflattering. The long, straight driveway at an angle to the house seems "runway-like" and contrary to the French love of style. It seems as if it would be awkward getting cars in and out of the garage with it arranged like that. (I Think an "S" curve driveway would be a major improvement.) Planting beds that reflects the circular cul-de-sac "frame" seems a natural. Seems like it would be worth exploring, again, the arrangement of the major elements of the plan....See MoreNeed ideas for front yard
Comments (1)What kind of tree is in the picture on the right? What hardiness zone are you in? A couple of suggestions (you have a REALLY CUTE house, btw) would be to remove the grass on both sides of the walkway and have a border with plants that you like and will do well in your conditions. I'd put pretty deep beds in front of the house with evergreen shrubs in the back. The azaleas could be moved to the middle of the bed and you could have your favorite annuals and/or perennials in the front. I'd love to see a picture of what you do end up doing. Comments (9)Kitchen is only 13' wide--nothing but a shallow stud-bay pantry will fit on the bottom wall between DR and entry, if an island with seating is used. 156" - 25" (base cabinets) - 42" aisle - 42" island with seating - 44" (minimum) aisle = 3". I switched the pantry and dish hutch, but that means the dish hutch is on the other side of the range from the DW. We don't know where groceries come into the house--if from the back door, the pantry is convenient just inside. The island could move over toward the short wall, then fridge and a shallow counter for landing could go between the DR and entry doors. That could be a snack center, with a MW on a shelf:...See MoreBlank Slate Master Bedroom Ideas
