Comments (39)Having mothered such a variety of children, ages, stages, sexes, etc., I have snickered all the way through this thread. Above all, keep a good sense of humor and 'this too shall pass.' When my Christian came along, my older children would say, "You would KILL us for that." My answer, "I'm exhausted from you guys. If it isn't murder and the house isn't being burned down, this too shall pass." LOL. With experience, you learn to pick your battles. As far as not leaving them alone for 2 seconds, I have even been IN the same room with them and they were able to pull one over on me. I went to a women's conference with a group of ladies several years ago. The comment was made how I took a shower quicker than anyone they had ever seen. Well, I learned 'the hard way' any shower longer than 2.7 seconds wasn't worth what I had to face when I stuck my head around the bathroom door. :')...See MoreAntique Dresser and cedar chest - mothballs! Comments (19)I am one who subscribes to the sunshine and fresh air theory ;) In the interim, I've linked to a product below that I really like. You can get it at Lowe's, for sure, and other stores (paint stores) but Lowe's is least expensive in my area. I bought a vintage (but pristine) Drexel bedroom suite and the drawers smelled of perfume (it was obnoxious). Before I ever used it I put several of these odor absorbers inside the drawers and kept them shut tight for a good month. (We got the set in winter). Come summer there was no need to air it out, after a month the smell was completely gone and dresser/armoire/night table smelled fresh and a bit citrus like, instead of old stale perfume ;) There's Citrus Magic, but I much prefer Natural Magic. Also, my local Ace has begun selling some very pricey odor absorbing gels ($17) I heard good things about but can't attest to and can't remember the name. Maybe your local Ace would have it? (Mine has it on a display with a video playing, so it's very prominent)....See Moregrey or white for midcentury home floor?
Comments (53)Thanks jakabedy and mstls! Dragonflywings - thank you!!! the problem with parrots is they are highly intelligent and very social animals. It is very hard to keep them entertained and amused. They like a job to do. I think my guys see chewing the wood as a job to do. It also helps their beaks stay trimmed. My boy Zeek loves working on drains in the house and has disassembled all of the master drains including the shower. They are curious animals and love to explore the house. But they also will call for me when they get out of sight. Each of them has a different call for me. Lastly, they just want to be loved. All four of them love to be held close and snuggled. Zeek in particular likes to be wrapped like a papoose and cuddled. In short they are very intelligent, loving and social animals, but they are a real challenge to keep as pets. They are not domesticated and only one or two generations from the wild. They are meant to be flying free in the wild with their buddies, navigating obstacles, searching for food, raising babies...not locked in square cages, in homes with ceilings. I do the best I can , but I can never replace the flock or mate they would have in the wild. Two of my birds I found on craigslist. Both have broken bones and were living in tiny cages. One was severely malnourished and both were weak from being confined in such small cages. Sadly I think this is very common.
