Colors play a huge role in selling your home (especially in slow markets) and most buyers want a move-in ready home. I worked years in builder model homes in sales and many people would be turned on or off simply, just by the paint colors in a home. And if they did not like the paint many could not see passed it no matter what. Even when told they could build any plan, or make their own plan and pick any color of paint. It was a no go. They would be turned off by the paint and not imagine the home in any other color. When you do sell model homes 95% of the time the buyers choose the exact same plan, paint color and finishes of the model home, because people are visual and many need to see it to imagine it. They can't think outside the box, or very few are willing to imagine or want to go through the hassle of painting. Even on the real estate shows on TV one of the main comments they make about either liking a room or not is about the paint colors. People want a home they can move into that is move in ready, live in for a while then paint if they want. We always give our houses and any rooms with a custom paint color a fresh neutral paint job and always sell our homes before any others in our neighborhood and for top dollar. Making it fresh and neutral and move-in ready is all part of it. But if someone has no clue how to paint, how to choose appealing colors and are sloppy, I agree don't bother....See MoreEntry Way/Foyer Paint Color--Help!!!!! Pics please!
Comments (3)Here are photos of our Entry and if you check the link from "My Page" you can see adjacent room photos where the colors continue. Our colors are SW rather than BM. Not personally familiar with the colors you mention but ours are: Accent in Foyer continuing into LR - Latte; LR/DR and first flight of the stairs is Kilim Beige; then in the corner changes to Divine White. We also have good light on the 1st floor but used the Divine White through the interior hallway upstairs. Our most difficult decisions were where to break the colors. Hope this helps. Good luck in your new home. Here is a link that might be useful: Foyer...See Morehelp with my entrance way/foyer (pictures)
Comments (9)DM, I tried everything I could think of to embed your photos here and nothing worked. Sorry. Snapfish doesn't seem to be set up to posted photos on forums. Too bad. Do you have a photobucket account? They are very easy to use and you can even share clickable thumbnails. They seem to have every kind of code you'd need to post anywhere that I've ever wanted to post to. As for you entry. I love the table! That is one gorgeous piece. It seems to have been made for your home. The table runner is awesome too, but it could limit you on art selection. Once you get a large piece of art on the wall I don't think the lack of wall color will matter. This way, as you both want, the features of your home along with the decor, will be the show piece. You won't need color on the walls to "make" the room. As for wall art, what about making your own? I know you don't like to paint walls, but.....? There's so many other ideas for DIY art too. You say you thought about horizontal wood. Why not do it as "art" instead of the whole wall? I just bought a square coffee table for three ninety nine at a local thrift store and if Restore a Finish does it's trick, I might just use the top for art. This picture is really terrible, but it has burled and parquet wood veneer. Check thrift stores for large works or art or mirrors with or with great frames. If you don't like the art just use the frame. My brain is slowing down. I need food. Good luck! It's good to "see" you again....See Moreneed advice for lighting in entrance foyer
Comments (16)You have a lovely foyer and the sconces you purchased will look GREAT! I think you shouldn't stop at replacing the sconces. Sorry but your chest of drawers, chairs, portrait and flower arrangement kind of look like a funeral home. I would remove all these things and hang a large floor to ceiling mirror between the sconces and replace the rug with something current and perhaps round to echo the curved staircase and the curved wall. And that's it. You have some lovely architectural details in your foyer, don't distract from them by adding more stuff. If you replace your ceiling light fixture, can you replace with a light in the same family as the sconces?...See MoreBrown Dog
