bargain & finds 2009
Comments (19)Ianna I purchased lots and lots of real bargains at the Canadian Tire in Barrie about two weeks ago it must be Now they have closed up the garden centre. Plants had been marked down and then down again and the last time I went they where .25 cents. The small pots of perennials. Four inch pots where I think .75 I bought some good stuff. Mind you as you mentioned some of the plants didn't look good But I am making a new perennial bed in the front of my house, along the sidewalk The bed measures eight feet by sixty. So I need lots of plants I have lots of Iris from my sons garden Day lilies from my own in the back yard and have been taking lots of cuttings of that dark, almost black sedum that you see here and there. Which are taking just fine. But the inexpensive Canadian Tire perennials will really help fill up the bed. I forget now all that I bought . That blue Russian Sage, isn't it called. Perenial poppies. A yellow flowering perennial that I don't remember but very hardy. I don't just recall all the stuff I bought some that I wasn't familar with but I thought might be ideal. I put the worst of them into window boxes that I had not used this year, with new top notch soil and in a partially shady spot Gave them lots of water and most of them look good. Am going to put them into the new flower bed, I think early September. The other day I was at the Botanix garden centre in Barrie and got two gorgeous hostas for 75 percent off. Lakeside beach captain, which I just love and Hosta Earth angel Two terrific looking hostas There where only two marked down that much or I would have bought more. Love those bargains. Kind of exciting isn't it....See MoreMy newest bargain find- Cute Henredon Chair for $40
Comments (13)Love the tapestry idea! I searched for one a few years back, but could never find one that didn't look cheesy. (It seemed that all of the ones in my budget were the mass-produced sort that just looked like a Wal-Mart throw pillow stretched out!) It seems the *good* looking ones, aged, patinaed, and slightly worn are thousands. I'll have to renew that search. You're right Les, that everything looks smooth in the pic. In real life, though, without the flash washing things out, the wall is *heavily* textured in a sort of hand-troweled plaster look, and the chair is a tweed-type fabric. It almost looks like burlap. Or is the general appearance that seems smooth? Like it just needs more color/balance/texture in general? DH wants an oil painting. DH however would burst at the seams if I actually bought an oil painting. (I don't think he has any idea just how much they can run!) THottie, I never did a thing to the chairs in my den. They're in a room that is used mainly for kids; Wii playing, videos, plopping down after swimming, etc. They're so perfect as-is! Nothing can hurt them. The leather is such good shape, and it's impervious to the spilled Cokes, ground up Cheezits, and wet chlorine derrieres! Since I'm going to Charleston with my mom in a couple of weeks, I'll keep my eyes peeled for something that might work....See MoreAnother Maine CL bargain find! Italian chairs for $40 each
Comments (27)BH - now at THAT price, why wouldn't you scoop up one of those tables for your coffee table? They look like they'd be perfect cut down. CP, that love seat is adorable! I just love the old one in my office, that started out rust and ivory big checks from 'Country Farm Furniture', I don't know how many years ago. The small size is perfect, and it looks to be the size of yours. Great job re-doing it! Update - my sister scoffed up the 'all leather' chair above faster than you can imagine. It's in her bedroom already where I hear it looks great. My mother wants the other one, but I told her I'd find her another chair for her bedroom! It'll be the payment for the next time she has to baby sit my dogs when I travel for work....See MoreRoadside finds and CL bargains transformed
Comments (30)Nicole, good for you for finding a way to make the chairs work for now, they are great chairs in such good shape. Are you sure, though, that you only need 4 yards of fabric each? I ask because I used 7 yards on my little chair. However, a fair piece of that was used to make the welting (although I made way more than I needed!). Here is the link to a yardage chart on a professional upholsterers site I found http://www.carrscorner.com/yardagechart.php I know what you mean about fabric price! I used CL fabric on my chair, but when I was looking for the dining chair fabric I was floored at the prices. That is why I'm using a table cloth to cover the one I'm presently working on! ;) Trancegemini, I am now kicking myself for not taking photos of the reconstruction of the chairs! Yesterday I started to rebuild the wooden chair shown above, and I started from scratch with it! I added all new webbing, replaced the springs and hand tied them, new burlap and now all new padding. I have tear-down photos of both chairs, but got so involved with putting things back together that I didn't think to record that process! Next time for sure. Double welting is the decorative trim used to cover raw ends, and I see from the link I just found that I can still use this on my pink chair looking at the way it is made, but I would have to purchase a special foot for my machine. The link to explain it is below. Scroll down to see all of the article and photos. Here is a link that might be useful: How to make/use double welt cord...See More- 7 years ago
