What a great find. Don't just love a good bargain? With your rug there, maybe you can pick out something that reflects the colors in it? The red would be my pick and I'd look for a picture, even if it isn't your dream oil painting.

I think the blue plates would be lovely too - I adore them just like you. And like you, the man in my life (who knows even less about decor/decorating than I do) makes me say Urf! Smmmch!

I would want a standing lamp by the chair -- if possible! Yes indeed! a small table to hold a cup of tea or coffee would be a necessary addition for me too! LOL! And a thin basket to hold reading materials or the latest decor mags ....

Yes -- a large painting or even two matching ones would be very nice there!

Would a tall mirror with small plates hanging above it work there? JUST a thought!

I would love to see something with some texture - the wall, the chair and the drapery are all very smooth. Perhaps a cool piece of metal art, or a tapestry.

Or, if you wanted to do something a little off-beat, put a mantel on the wall, to give the feel of a fireplace there. Then hang some art above it (or some plates, LOL). Add a handpainted fireboard, something like these:

A floor lamp behind the chair so the light falls over the shoulder onto the book for reading, and a small table beside for a cup of coffee and a place to put the book. A great textural throw draped over the arm in blues and rusts to ward off a chill.

That is an AMAZING find. What I especially love about it is the shape of the arms. It's clearly not just your usual arm chair. Congrats!

I second les's suggestion about a tapestry. Something that would work off that beautiful rug?

Yeah, I thought something nubby and casual would like nice over your chair too. I'm sure you can find something off the beaten path that won't cost you an arm and a leg.

Love the tapestry idea! I searched for one a few years back, but could never find one that didn't look cheesy. (It seemed that all of the ones in my budget were the mass-produced sort that just looked like a Wal-Mart throw pillow stretched out!) It seems the *good* looking ones, aged, patinaed, and slightly worn are thousands. I'll have to renew that search.

You're right Les, that everything looks smooth in the pic. In real life, though, without the flash washing things out, the wall is *heavily* textured in a sort of hand-troweled plaster look, and the chair is a tweed-type fabric. It almost looks like burlap. Or is the general appearance that seems smooth? Like it just needs more color/balance/texture in general?

DH wants an oil painting. DH however would burst at the seams if I actually bought an oil painting. (I don't think he has any idea just how much they can run!)

THottie, I never did a thing to the chairs in my den. They're in a room that is used mainly for kids; Wii playing, videos, plopping down after swimming, etc. They're so perfect as-is! Nothing can hurt them. The leather is such good shape, and it's impervious to the spilled Cokes, ground up Cheezits, and wet chlorine derrieres!

Since I'm going to Charleston with my mom in a couple of weeks, I'll keep my eyes peeled for something that might work.

What a great find! Here is my thought on what to put on the wall from something that I have done recently:

I found 4 black faux bamboo picture frames, 8x10 at the local Homegoods for $6.99 each and bought 4 botanical prints of yellow flowers on ebay for under $10. I originally thought that I would hang them in a grouping of 4 until I found a medium-large framed botanical print at Homegoods in a similar yellow color scheme for $29.99 with an interesting chinese chippendale style frame. So I put that in the middle with two frames on each side of it and I do say so myself, it looks fantastic for the amount of money I spent on them!

Now keep in mind that you can get 4 frames in a different style and frame any print (not just botanical) and get a similar effect.

As soon as I saw your pic, I immediately thought of how my grouping would work perfectly there. I will take a pic later today and try to post it.

reno: I had the same problem trying to find a nice tapestry that didn't cost a fortune and didn't look cheesy. Another option would be to hang a semi-antique Persian rug on the wall. I think you could probably find one for a reasonable price. The nice thing about rugs is that they don't have to be perfect to be beautiful. Anyway, really love the new chair.

Renofan, you're not going to believe this, but I bought that same chair at *my* local Habitat Restore for $25 -- except mine is white linen tweed and I haven't cleaned it yet, so it's nowhere near as pretty as yours right now! No label anywhere on mine, but when I took the skirt off, it was clear to me that this was a very, very well-made chair, and probably a nicer piece of furniture than I'd ever owned before. And SO cozy! DH is usually cranky when I buy furniture without consulting him, but the moment he sat down in this chair, he gave me a thumbs-up (and pretty much refused to get up). Does yours have a label? Where?

I found a pair of Pennsylvania House low wingbacks on CL the next week, and those I'll have to reupholster, b/c they're a pink-peach... but maybe I'll follow your lead with the little chair and just have it cleaned, and see what that does to it. Congrats on your find -- and how funny to have matching chairs!

The chair looks smashing there and what a steal. I agree with comment above on a possible grouping of four botanical prints, quiet but would go nicely with your furnishings. Table (?) if you found a sm. round one and had a smallish lamp maybe in brass. Nice Room!!
