Kitchen needs some updating. Sugguestions please.
Comments (20)The stove, DW and floor tile are fighting the bright white backsplash and fridge. The counters are good with the white (but look like laminate and a drop in sink where you might want to upgrade to granite and an undermount, those would not be the first things I'd do for visual impact (if they aren't in good condition, that's another story). You need to pick a direction -- the warm beige or the bright white. I'm not loving the way the tile photographs and I like clean white in kitchens, so I'd be inclined to replace the tile floor and work on changing the appliances to one finish -- white, black or stainless. Wall paint and ceiling fixture would be easy updates to freshen everything up too. If budget allows, then you could do the counters, sink, faucet and splash, but I'm not seeing them or your hardware as objectionable. You may feel differently living with them....See MoreVintage kitchen needs updating. Small budget.
Comments (67)Ah..(sorry I'm too talkative..)..check your local Craigslist maybe too? People get rid of stuff..and sometimes of new stuff as well-when remodeling for example. The prices are generally pretty good, so you never know. Tons of fridges on our Craigslist..true, I never payed attention to their finish that much.. I know though we bought a new bisque fridge, a smaller one, and pretty modest, for my MIL rental. My DH bought it-have no idea where. Can ask him. But it doesn't look impressive or charming like your stove. It's very basic. Well the whole kitchen is super basic. It's a tiny one bedroom. The location is great though, very central, walking distance to everything, nice parks around-so 1600 per month lol. And you have to do the laundry in the laundromat....See More60's Kitchen in Need of Update - please help!
Comments (22)I could recommend a few tweaks to the layout, if these were individually-built box cabinets. From what I can see, though, they are very solid job-built custom cabinets. These are so much nicer and better quality than the standard builder grade cabinets used most of the time now. I agree with those who say just change the minor things for now, and save up for a total renovation after you live with it for awhile....See MoreRetro kitchen needs update
Comments (29)O, you have so many choices for your colors, depending on what's going on with the rest of your house. What about coppers, blues? The green in the first photo doesn't read rustic because of the other modern elements, and those elements will be important to highlight your neat cabinets no matter the accent color you choose. I looked at the Wilsonart and without seeing it in person, it looks like it would be pretty with the floor and cabinets. I think a counter whose tones match the cabinets will also be pretty with those floors. I'm wondering if you've considered a wood look tile that's just a bit darker than your cabinets. That to me opens up some possibilities for your counters and again, to me, seems to fit a midcentury look well. Have you looked at Houzz photos of midcentury style kitchens?...See MoreAqua Kitchen and Bath Design Center
