Subway tile with bullnose or chair rail?
Comments (10)Subwaytile, Originally I had ordered Carrara marble chair rails for the hall bath but for whatever reason (miscommunication or oversight by tile designer at store) they were never received. Because we were about to put our house on the market we decided to go for the more inexpensive alternative. I still like the bathroom as it is. The chair rail would have made it a bit more dressed up. The only other regret I have is not putting in a vanity. Again, since we were about to sell we decided to forgo the vanity and put a pedestal sink in. Although I love the clean streamlined look of the pedestal sink, I think we could use the extra storage. We never did move. Right now, we also in the process of repainting it. Comments (6)lucy, such a tease... would love to see pics. igloo, LOL my miele DW is one of my top favorite items in my new kitchen. after we had it a while it did start "crying" for something... rinse aid I think. I had to look through the manual and punch in a series of codes and it stopped beeping. that was when i realized that it has a VERY sophisticated computer running behind the scenes (which in general scares me... particularly given the quality of repair men these days). Since then, all has been fine. The cutlery rack was a big risk for me. I didn't know if I would like it... had never had anything remotely like it before and I have to say that I love it. Maybe with time you will too? My middle rack is adjustable so can be raised to allow for more room in the bottom rack for tall items but so far I have been fine even with saute pans, stock pots etc going in. My worst appliance so far has been my GE Monogram fridge which has already met three repairment in its short 5 month life. so sad. (but on a happier note is currently running fine. am keeping fingers crossed... wish i went for the subzero which was $2K more... in the long run that doesn't seem like much)....See MoreIs cement backer board a must for tiled walls?
Comments (19)"... if tiling up to the ceiling above a soaking tub (without a handheld shower head), can you tile over established drywall that has Kerdi applied over the drywall." For the walls around a soaking tub, if you want to hang Kerdi on the drywall and tile on the Kerdi, that's perfectly acceptable. "I had also thought you cannot tile over drywall." In non-wet areas, you can tile directly on drywall. Example, bathroom walls outside of the shower, or kitchen back splashes. You can't tile directly on gypsum board in wet areas like showers and tub surrounds, even if the gypsum board is moisture resistant. In a wet area, Schluter allows Kerdi to be installed over gypsum board. In that case, the tile is on the Kerdi, and the Kerdi is protecting the gypsum board....See MoreWould love backsplash help
Comments (5)@Beth H. : thank you!! We ended up deciding to do the subway tile rather than the marble slab. I was on the fence about going to the ceiling with it or not....I'll have to see how it's looking once they get started on it. I'll be going to the ceiling on the wall next to it where the open shelving is and behind the vent hood....See Moreworthy
