Subway Tile Walls/Hex Floor, Wood Baseboards and Chair Rail?
Comments (14)i checked my invoice to make sure i didn't create the bargain in my mind. my memory was a bit off - i actually paid 1.68 a piece, after a 10% off coupon. no special HD, just our local one in st. pete fl, and i ordered my tile before thanksgiving last year. the chair rail was hard to find in the HD dal catalogue - it took awhile (i think it was in the "liners" area). it is chair and not bullnose; description states 010026cr1p2 as the dal item number. the corner pieces were pricier, at 2.93 a piece (0100crc1p2 if you need those). there's still some old bananappeal stock around here at the discount tile stores - their white is a pretty good match for dal's 100 and the stock ao at lowes. i picked up some 6 inch bananappeal liners for 25 cents a piece....See MoreHelp with Tile Design - Subway & Glass Tile
Comments (22)This is such a great thread!! I really like the idea of vertical subways and then accent glass tiles running vertically in the shower to simulate the waterfall (I saw metalic ones this way in a video on the HGTV site). I have a small city bathroom so not much room to play with. My mind in dancing around this idea but if I did that then the only 'wow' would be that one vertical stripe within the shower. (All four walls will be tiled since the moisture situation makes this the only real choice so that leaves painting the walls outside the shower not an option.) If I go the traditional horizontal subway tile route with an accent strip all around the whole bathroom then the 'wow' is everywhere but the overall looks isn't as modern as I'd like. I really like the modernness of the vertical layout but how can I incorporate the glass tiles elsewhere besides the one vertical stripe in the shower? Anyone have any creative ideas?...See MoreWhat to do with vertical chair rail and cut tile meeting?
Comments (7)Thanks Shaughnn and Bill. My husband went to the Daltile center in NYC today - the unglazed tile will not work. Shaughnn: I haven't tried the tile stone, but I'll definitely get the tile stone for this and future projects. Though, I don't think it will give the clean, finished look I want. Bill: The shower is not in alcove like in the picture but open to the rest of the bathroom. Here's a picture of what I'm writing about. Will I just have to accept this unfinished edge? I know the grout will cover most of it but it's the "unleveled-ness" of the joints that's going to irk me....See MoreTransition from tile chair rail to shower
Comments (2)I perused my Ideabooks and the chair rail butts up to a narrow glass stationary panel, a metal frame, or a short wall built on two sides of the shower. I assume the last rail piece has a bullnosed end. Then you use the same piece to start the run of rail inside the shower. This is interesting where they made a right angle with the chair rail tile, which would allow you to not continue it into the shower....See Moresubwaytile
