“Cheesy” or not depends on you. Would you want it hanging in your living room? Or bedroom? Where would he want to put it? Where would you want to see it?

If you are a fan of "wall words", it's not cheesy, if you are not a wall words type, then yup, it's cheesy.

Something like these would make me smile every time I looked at it. Had my husband given me one. :)

I loved your speech. I would like for it to be preserved somehow in its entirety.

I like this idea. I don't think I like it hanging on a wall though. I would like it displayed in a bookcase, side table etc. part of a tablescape.

I remember you sharing about giving the speech at your wedding and IIRC he had tears listening to you. If so, I think it was very special to him and he would cherish a keepsake of the reading or partial reading. It seems kind of intimate to be shared by the two of you. Could you do it in a framed tray for his dresser/nightstand where he would see it daily?

I love the idea of memorializing the words that had such meaning for you and your DH. I am not sure that the wooden plaque is the execution I would choose. I like lizbeth-gardeners suggestion of a tray or a nightstand item. I also like the idea of the words on something that can be held in the hand, it feels more intimate, more personal.

For example, I gifted my DH with a silver money clip engraved, "Remember the 11 tokens" The last 10 pack of subway tokens we bought before wedding, we got 11. We proclaimed that a omen of good fortune. It's silly, but it's ours.

It's not cheesy at all! My husband would appreciate it. Then again, he's sentimental and loves to text me "love notes". I agree as making it more personal (love the money clip idea) to keep in the bedroom or maybe he has an office? I can't believe it's been two years!! Happy Anniversary!

So much depends on him ...my DH would be gracious about receiving it but I doubt he'd really know what to do with it.

At our stage in life, it's more about experiences than things. Things we have. I always wanted to do a hot air balloon ride or go parasailing...we will take a hike...take a trip...an overnight to a B&B...one time I took him to Rhinebeck NY to take a ride in an old open air Jenny...he loved it. And it always includes a nice meal at a nice restaurant. Lately we've been getting couples massages with our vacations (thank you mtnrd for the idea) which he really enjoys.

I agree that I might find another way to use your speech for a gift item. I am not sure if there is a line or turn of phrase you'd find apropos, but my DH still has and uses a Tiffany silver money clip. When we were dating, I got one as a gift from a coworker and it was not something I'd use so I gave it to DH. Years later it was lost and I gave him a new one.He likes that it is something he uses every day but still has sentimental value. It is engraved with our favored term of endearment.

Generally we, like Annie, always choose trips or events over gifts. My DH though, for our anniversary, does always look up the "traditional gift" and usually give me something that ties to it (however tangentially), usually a token. I like the tradition of that, and the creativity. Maybe you could make a romantic Chinese dinner at home?

I very much agree with MtnRd and Annie regarding trips/experiences. Would you two enjoy a Chinese dumpling class together? I know there are a few in the phila area... or maybe a fall afternoon at Baldwin’s book barn. Ok that’s not so special since it’s in your own backyard — but I think it fits in with a day of farmers market and antique shops that’s sure to be fun. And well .. paper

The gift really depends on your DH - that would be a no-go for mine. i don’t like words on walls or personal stuff like that on display but if he would like it maybe he has a study or some other personal space where he could enjoy it.

Maybe you could have it on a canvas, instead of wood, to uphold the cotton tradition?

And I think how cheesy - or not - it looks depends very much on choice of fonts, color, size and composition.

Carol makes a good point about the fonts, etc. We have been married 30+ years (the actual number makes us sound OLD), and starting with our first anniversary we have almost every single year taken a trip. Usually a long weekend, sometimes more. Sometimes one has planned a surprise destination, etc. I still think it would be cool and very meaningful to somehow preserve the speech you gave. I think you can do it without being cheesy. We have never done the typical list of what gift for each year. To me that would be a bit cheesy. Do what is meaningful to you and your DH. I can't wait to hear what you decide!!

I guess the "list/s" could be cheesy but it's all in how you interpret them. I think it makes it a little interesting as a starting point to have a sort of "constraint."

Personally, I like upholding what I consider charming old traditions.

So, I did order a variation of the one I posted. It will be one picture with part of the speech printed on the side. They'll send me a proof and if possible, I'll see about sharing it here (dh might get the witness protection edit treatment though.) I want to do something in addition to this though. Oh, and here's the thing--we never ordered a wedding album, (just lazy, we have a thumb drive of 700 pictures to pick and choose from). So, this will be our first framed wedding picture. It will go in our bedroom most likely, or, possibly on a shelf in our library.

There is a really good Chinese restaurant near us, but it is short on ambiance. That kind of bothers me for an anniversary dinner. The other thing is we both like Asian art, so I would be open to some small gesture in that department.

(oh, Mtn, I gave dh a pair of cufflinks with an engraving on them that makes absolutely no sense to anyone else. He loves them.)

I think it is a sweet and sentimental idea. If you've been put off by the responses to a "wall word" item, what about something like this for his desk or dresser?
