What do you think about these elements for basement bathroom??
Comments (8)Thanks all for your responses! LIke PPS said- it won't be used too often so I am not overly concerned about the quality.Unfortunately we only have a $500 budget for the vanity (and top/sink) so I really have to go for the big box store options. (Unless someone in the greater Boston area knows of a local place that can do the same for less). @pps7- it is a decent size, however, the basement plumbing was done when we built the house. Unfortunately, the location of the sink is NOT where I would have wanted it. I wish I could have switched the toilet with it but being the naive sole that I was when we were building- I had no idea what went with what. The location for the sink is teeny (i am almost feeling lucky I can even get a 30" in). The shower appears to be huge- which we weren't expecting but it's what is in the deal. We are using our builder to finish the basement so we are getting a decent deal for everything. I may still look into getting a remnant but i'm not sure how that will work the sink as well.. Seems like it may end up costing more than the $500. I still have some time, but not much! Thanks again!...See MoreMaster bathroom help-crosspost from bathroom forum
Comments (19)olychick, thank you for taking a look. :) I'm relieved to hear you think a white shower pan is best. I am heading out now to find porcelain marble look tiles for the shower walls to pick up the gray as you suggested. I want a shiny finish to the walls. Tell me if you think that's a misstep. I am avoiding marble as I have a marble topped vanity now that is pock marked with etchings. As far as seeing myself in the vanity, yes, I think I will be able to do so. I was planning on a black framed mirror spanning the vanity. My current vanity is 32 1/4" high (as will be the new vanity) and when seated on my vanity stool my reflection is seen up to my chest. The only issue currently is that my knees are pressed against drawers. I failed to mention that I was thinking of using absolute black granite for the vanity top for two reasons: one being cost and the other being to avoid etching. Will doing so deviate too much from my inspiration? Lastly, I had the idea of applying pieces of beveled mirror framed by black molding floor to ceiling along the back wall and continuing behind the toilet (similar to this only floor to ceiling with the exception of base molding & crown): [Traditional Bathroom[(https://www.houzz.com/photos/traditional-bathroom-ideas-phbr1-bp~t_712~s_2107) by Northbrook Architects & Building Designers Michael A. Comments (4)Thats a very specific size you’re looking for, your options may be limited. In mu quick search, I didnt find one lighted mirror at 40x36. You may find some though. Go to some lighting store, they’ll likely be the only place to actually see one in person. General things to consider : -Look at reviews for the look or mirror you like. You’ll likely find out fast what is good and what is garbage. Normally you get what you pay for, but you can really pay a lot for some of these mirrors. -Surface mount or in-wall? If you want in-wall, make sure the ones you look at are rated for in-wall mounting. Surface mounts can stick out a fair amount from the wall. -What are your lighting requirements? Is it just for ambiance or general lighting, or do you need specific lighting for makeup or other tasks? That should help narrow down if you need a full surround light, side lighting, top/bottom, or back lighting. -I’d opt for something fairly bright, with a dimmer so you can adjust as needed. The brighter lights will also reduce your chances for wanting/needing an additional fixture. -Get something with a decent warranty, or lighting that is fairly easy to fix or replace. If the lighting fails in 5 years after your warranty is up, you have a very expensive mirror that you need to replace, or live with. -I would try to buy locally, if the mirror breaks during shipping, thats an akward box to deal with returns/exchanges if shipping....See MoreMismatched finishes on bathroom fixtures?
Comments (5)What is the manufacturer of the sconce, maybe it's available online in another finish. If not, what about a mirrored framed medicine cabinet or I found a similar one in polished stainless steel. I now just found chrome medicine cabinets in either a traditional or contemporary style.http://sofiamedicinecabinets.com/products/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=149_150&products_id=311 Last one of the three photos. http://afinacorporation.com/the-collection/product_info.php?cPath=31&products_id=136 http://afinacorporation.com/the-collection/product_info.php?cPath=35&products_id=169...See Morecalidesign
