What do you think about these elements for basement bathroom??

We are in the midst of having our basement finished- The bathroom is going to be approximately 9'x7'. Not teeny but not huge either.

I can only fit a 30" vanity and the budget is $500 including top. So far, this is what i am looking at

with this vanity top

and this tile on floor in 12x24:

or a totally different flooring tbd.. What do you think so far?

What do you think so far? What should I change? What color flooring would you recommend if you don't think the one I have will work (it is more of a taupe striped look than it shows in the photo)

Both are very nice. Just a word of caution with the Allen Roth products though. They are the Lowe's brand and I can't speak for the vanities themselves but other Allen Roth products I've purchase have been very cheaply made and junk. I wouldn't trust it for the long term, but that's just me.

If you want that vanity, before settling with a top, I could make some calls around to the local granite yards and see what kind of remnants are available. That is a pretty small size, so you may be able to find something you like for less. For example,we have a local shop here that gives you the remnants and only charges for fabrication. I got the granite curb and transition for our bathroom for a song compared to what I was quoted from other places.

My sister and BIL just redid their bathroom with very similar colors, and it looks great. They didn't use exactly your materials, but they did use Lowe's.

I agree on the granite remnant if you want to go that route.

We used a Lowe's vanity and ordered a different top for it that cost probably more than the vanity.

I have a dark kitchen floor (it's Amtico vinyl "wood" planks in Priory Oak (really gorgeous, hard to believe it's not real wood), and it does show light colored debris, there's no where for it to hide. But let me tell you, with 7 kids immaculate floors are not a priority! That being said, this is a girls bathroom and there will be a lot of dusty things flying about. Yesterday I spent about an hour on the Armstrong website's "Design a Room" program and put different floors in different bathroom settings, and you could even change the cabinet and wall colors, just to get an overall idea of the effect of various colors. I was very surprised that a lovely, subtle checkerboard light gray/medium gray floor looked absolutely blah with the colors I had picked. However, a black and white checkerboard really popped. I love the checkerboard look, wanted to put it into my kitchen but I was afraid to. I only have a sunroom left, I can checkerboard that one if I don't do the girls bathroon (so this isn't my last chance). A black floor also looked great. The Flexitec flooring is already set at an angle, but the fake grout has a beige cast to it... here is the link to the Armstrong black "stone" floor. The grout lines are thinner, so there isn't a texture to the floor. That could be a good thing? I loved the black penny tile floor, it is a stunning effect. And I bet they have to work to keep it looking so fabulous. I'm now so torn about the granite-vinyl dichotomy. I hae to keep reminding myself that real tile is more of a maintenance issue in my house due to the constant shifting of my foundation. We have wall/ceilling cracks everywhere for a few months, then they disappear, then we have a huge storm, and the cracks return. But grout damage doesn't go away and gets worse over time. I guess it's a part of living in Texas. And hello Monicakm! Thank you for all of your replies so far, they've got me thinking. we dont have a master bath, just put the main bathroom right next to the master bedroom (we prefer it that way since we are on different schedules, and was cheaper to build with one less bathroom anyway) We have the shower and family closets together in a room off of the bathroom. We dont store clothes in bedrooms, but put the closets where we get dressed at. having them together is so convenient for undressing and redressing right next to the shower. The shower is walled in around the ceiling, and has a vent fan, so moisture is not an issue. The bathroom is shared with everyone so we put the washer/dryer behind sliding doors, and turned the toilet so you cant be seen even if you dont close the pocket door to completely seal it off from the room. We also have a door out to the patio which works well for hanging laundry on a clothesline, or for putting filty kids straight into the tub. Ours was a custom build that seems to be confusing to some people that we dont have closets in the bedrooms, and get dressed in the shower room. Nevermind a door so we dont have to track through the entire house to get to the bathroom. Thats the great thing about being able to build your own home-do it to suit your lifestyle.

Thanks everyone. Brooke and ritamay- I appreciate your thoughts! I think a strip would be more subtle, less expensive and less hassle than the whole back wall. In fact, this wasnt even the glass tile that I wanted. The stuff I wanted was gorgeous, and completely sold out for a couple months. I think that all this brown might overwhelm the bath. Or I could just paint, not do any backsplash and wait. That may be the best route. I need to speak with the contractor and see what he is cabable of. If he cant do this, than it will be paint all the way. dianlo, I am so emotionally and physically exhausted from this project. You are right that I just want to be done. I DREAD going to home depot now, the sight of home/remodeling magazines makes me nauseous, and I am acclimating to the drywall dust/no kitchen/one sink (which is a luxury, actually). The only thing is that the concrete backsplash is not cheap, and I almost think that I could do something better for the money, or not at all.

Nice job! Your bathroom appears to be similar in size to our MB. We installed a small towel bar between the vanity and the toilet (but higher on the wall). Had no other option really. We have a window on the wall opposite the toilet, and an in-swinging bathroom door which covers 1/2 of that wall when the door is open. FWIW, many hotels have those combo train rack/towel bars hanging directly over the toilets, so I wouldn't think hanging your towel(s) between the sink/vanity and toilet would be much different.

I prefer the top vanity. We have a Roth and Allen vanity in our basement as well- and it's totally fine. I wouldn't put one in a bathroom used everyday by multiple people, but for occasional use it's sufficient.

9x7 is pretty decent size, are you sure you can't squeeze in a 36". Ours is 36" and has a bit more storage.

LIke PPS said- it won't be used too often so I am not overly concerned about the quality.Unfortunately we only have a $500 budget for the vanity (and top/sink) so I really have to go for the big box store options. (Unless someone in the greater Boston area knows of a local place that can do the same for less).
@pps7- it is a decent size, however, the basement plumbing was done when we built the house. Unfortunately, the location of the sink is NOT where I would have wanted it. I wish I could have switched the toilet with it but being the naive sole that I was when we were building- I had no idea what went with what. The location for the sink is teeny (i am almost feeling lucky I can even get a 30" in). The shower appears to be huge- which we weren't expecting but it's what is in the deal. We are using our builder to finish the basement so we are getting a decent deal for everything. I may still look into getting a remnant but i'm not sure how that will work the sink as well.. Seems like it may end up costing more than the $500. I still have some time, but not much!

@pps- I just saw you posted yours. That is the one I want, but it is too big. I was hoping they made it in 30 but they don't :(

If there is to be a shower nearby with the possibility of a wet floor just a word of caution to ensure that the vanity is made of plywood sides and not particle board. Particle board will wick up any water and be ruined. My carpenter was adament about that for our basement remodel. Good luck with it! love your colors.

I like the second vanity with the floor tiles you've chosen.

A friend bought a stand alone vanity that came with a granite top from Costco and I was impressed with the quality. Dovetailed easy close drawers and very attractive.

What do you think about these elements for basement bathroom??
