Have you checked out West Elm in the city? I am a big fan of divans and they sell a lot of them. They are modern and are sold in sections so you can configure them in the way you like. West Elm stores are located all over the NYC metro area. Check out the site--they have great sale that's going on right now so you may be able to get a good deal on a sofa. Good luck! Very nice indeed! & if you plan on spending much time in the chair, I would position it to enjoy the nice view, just like the sofa. It is so neutral, I think just about anything will coordinate w/ it. Just sayin'...

Do you see potential problems with the couch/sectional not providing a lot of space between the hallway and the room? Or perhaps I need to find smaller furniture or move the couch closer? I think the previous owners also made the room a dining room, which is why the chandelier is there. However, not pictured is our kitchen that openly connects to a room with a fireplace, and we're planning to make that room the dining area. Thank you for your opinion!

I really think you could do any color you want. I would just stay away from beige/brown/cream. Other than that I think it's hard to do wrong. I also think the style of the sofa should have clean lines to go with the space. I think a big sofa with rolled arms would look out of place.
