It’s fun to see the neighborhood change, isn't it? We live at the short end of our block, with no sidewalks, and the streets on either side of us do have sidewalks, so we don’t get as many kids as on the other streets. And one year, when it sleeted, our only trick-or-treaters came from the Halloween party next door, during a 15-minute lull in the weather!

One house in our neighborhood used to set up a firepit and their Adirondack chairs, out in their yard. They had water bottles and some grown-up drinks, and of course treats. Sometimes parents would hang out for a bit while their kids trick-or-treated at the houses right around there. Very fun, and I don’t recall much other decor!

If you have a long driveway, do some corn shucks by the mailbox or lamppost, and if you have lights up the driveway do battery lights on the posts. Or string some on a tree, orange ones are really cute. You want to kind of entice the families to come up the drive. Or, what about those huge pumpkins that used to decorate a gate across from the middle school? Amazing! Probably pricey.

I saw a cute knock-off of a Pottery Barn wreath: a grapevine or Similar wreath with orange lights (battery), and flattish bats glued on.

This one is nice, you can keep it up through Thanksgiving! You could probably find the leaf garland at Hobby Lobby and add white holiday lights.

I have something like this, I got the sticks and vase from Ikea and the colored light branches (mine are orange) from Ace. I add scarecrows instead of bats because I‘m too lazy to change the bats out after Halloween lol and because it’s friendlier. I put it on my front stoop next to the door. Two flanking the door could look good. If you have planters by the mailbox or along the driveway, you could just poke the things in there,

This looks really fun! You could certainly hang it inside, or between porch posts or on bushes or a tree. Use white or black Thread or some such to reach an attachment point.

We always buy some simple decorations at Target. I think I have some glowing cats and some light-up lanterns. They have a nice display there demonstrating the items. I have Halloween themed trays.

We give out the king size candy that we also get at Target ($1 each) and I love seeing their faces light up as they choose. It's so hard to know how much to buy as our numbers vary tremendously year to year. In 2013 we had 150 and last year maybe 30.

This was last year. I normally stay indoors but we were remodeling so I stayed in the driveway and it worked well.

If you have access to a Dollar Tree, they generally have lots of goodies.

When we first moved into our house and didn't have a lot of time or funds, I would print out (and sometimes cut out) images or signs from the internet and put them in windows, on the door, etc.

If you have lights on your house, sometimes you can find colored bulbs (orange? green?) and replace them for the time. My mom was notorious for changing her house front light bulbs to holiday colors- and that was about all the decorating she did!

We moved last year and my husband had so much fun decorating our doorway area with spider webs and such... and he dressed up too... and we had 4 kids I think!

This year we have at least 2 more who just moved in. I know at least I will buy the full size candy.

Our neighborhood is changing too. 2-3 acres have to be walked between homes, so if we get kids they are little ones with parents. I stay away from scary. IT'S THE GREAT PUMPKIN CHARLIE BROWN!!

Yes, I want *mildly* spooky, and I'm not up to *elaborate* anything. Guess I need to get out to some stores.

I was done with Halloween when I was about ten -- and again when our DS was ten, but I'd like to be neighborly.

My "decoration" of Halloween (I no longer do anything) was a pumpkin on the front porch and a few ears of corn on the front door.

Go to target. They have the BEST stuff. I also like all the light projector things that are out now. I have ones that project floating ghosts, flying witches, dancing pumpkins and a big purple BOO! one. I also have some that are like a kaleidoscope. Purple and orange. They are absolutely minimum effort for a nice effect.

I am not very good at minimal decorating I admit......

I love Halloween. I have more Halloween decorations than Christmas. I do what I call cross over decorations. I decorate for fall in the beginning of Sept , then add the Halloween decorations to the existing fall decorations. Once Halloween is over I take down the Halloween decorations and leave the fall decorations up until after Thanksgiving.

For simple door decorations I would get a Halloween wreath for on the front door. There is all kind from whimsical, scary, to grotesque. And don't forget the pumpkin. Nothing says Halloween more than a carved pumpkin. If you don't want to carve a real one they sell plastic carved ones. Another thing that the kids get a kick out of is the dollar store rats. I have about a dozen or two and have them on the porch and walkway. Another simple thing you could do if you have an electrical plug outside is to shine an orange or purple flood light on your front door. I use outdoor timers on my decorations. It is a pain to plug them in and unplug every night.

Even though I decorate I don't get any kids due to living on a private road. But the 3 other neighbors and my grand-kids enjoy them.

This is from last year. It is hard to see but there is real deer bones hanging down the sides of the leaf garland. You could use anything, skeletons, pumpkins, bats, etc.

I saw a grapevine wreath with rubber snakes, all painted black, creepiest thing I've seen in awhile!

I'd do a plastic pumpkin and wreath. Doesn't get easier than that.

I was trying to find pictures of what I used to do. One was cellophane with a witch on it. t stuck right onto my storm door.

I also put a few pumpkins out. My funniest story was when an actual spider made a web between them. The looks on the kids' faces! I said "Well, it's Halloween!" "That's my spider."
