How much of each “ingredient”?

I just use plain Dawn. Sometimes Baby Shampoo. Both cut through grease and dirt. Put a drop in my wet palm, foam it up rub gently with finger and rinse. Just like washing my hair.

I've heard of using baby shampoo too Watchmelol. Normally I'd use Dawn and warm water in a bowl and swish around...you can see the change color so you know the make is coming out, but most the brushes I did today have white tips and they came out perfectly white so you know the make up coming off.

Lindsey, I didn't measure but it didn't take much of each. I just used a deep cereal bowl and put a little bit of each and filled with warm water and just swished the brushes around.

Interesting, I'll have to try it. I use mostly sponges, but I do have some brushes. I will try it for the sponges because NOTHING gets the makeup out of them that I have tried. I've used dawn and I've used baby shampoo, regular shampoo, Dr. Bronner's liquid and bar soap, regular bar soap etc etc. Nothing cleans them all that great.

I did check out ratios recommended online. 1 tbsp. of dawn, 1 tbsp. of vinegar, 1 cup of water. I definitely used too much vinegar. I checked them when they were drying and smelled like vinegar so I rewashed them with Dr. Bronners and they were fine this morning. I blow the bristles to help speed up the drying process. Not all the way, just to get a lot of the moisture out and then let them dry overnight.

Arkansas girl: same with my sponge. Can't find a way to get it all out. Maybe I'll try the dawn/vinegar on it and see how clean I can get it.

But I was really impressed how quickly the make up disappeared off the brushes.

This site says 1 cup water, 1 tablespoon each of detergent and vinegar. I'm going to try it, for sure. I've done the one with shampoo and swirl it, but it takes forever. I don't feel like they're as clean as they could be.

Dawn is usually a good cleaner for a lot of things so this makes sense For makeup brushes.

I use shampoo I no longer use for my hair. I also have some makeup brush cleaner I bought a long time ago. It really seems to do a better job and of course it is more expensive, but it doesn't take as much either to clean one brush. I use it on my more expensive brushes.

I tried just shampoo this morning on my foundation brush, it got a lot of the make out but not all. So it must be the vinegar that makes the big difference.

Finally tried this. I'm sold. It didn't just get them clean quickly, it's like the vinegar "conditioned" them like hair conditioner. They were like new! Love it.

I've never had a issue with cleaning makeup brushes but do be aware that if you use a perfumed cleanser that you will be getting traces of that on your face.
