I used cetaphil for years - upon the recommendation of my dermatologist. Just recently changed to CeraVe because my skin is drier. May need to switch back to cetaphil for warm weather. I always use witch-hazel toner after cleansing, and I can attest that the cetaphil leaves little residue. However, it is a mild cleanser and you can get alot of makeup built up on sponges/in brushes. On my brushes/sponges, I use soap and water or shampoo.

I did check out ratios recommended online. 1 tbsp. of dawn, 1 tbsp. of vinegar, 1 cup of water. I definitely used too much vinegar. I checked them when they were drying and smelled like vinegar so I rewashed them with Dr. Bronners and they were fine this morning. I blow the bristles to help speed up the drying process. Not all the way, just to get a lot of the moisture out and then let them dry overnight. Arkansas girl: same with my sponge. Can't find a way to get it all out. Maybe I'll try the dawn/vinegar on it and see how clean I can get it. But I was really impressed how quickly the make up disappeared off the brushes.

Here's a youtube. This is how I've cleaned my make up brushes as well as my paint brushes. You don't need the brush cleaner he speaks of for your make up brush, just the technique of rolling it around in the palm of your hand. It may take a while to get all the soap out, as make up brushes are considerably denser than paint brushes. at the time frame 1:41 where he's "bending" the bristles back & forth, this is really good for working the soap out.
