Flush countertop: satisfied or regretting?

Sandy

Has anyone installed a countertop with too small of an overhang and regretted it?

We have flat, frameless cabinet 0.75” doors, and are considering installing a countertop either flush with those doors, or with a small overhang (maybe 1” from the cabinet box). We were planning on getting an easier or pencil edge for the countertop.

I know that the overhang is supposed to protect the cabinet doors from spills and is helpful when dusting off crumbs. But we like the look of the flush countertop *so* much better!

Has anyone made the choice to shrink or eliminate the overhang and been unhappy? Are the problems minor inconveniences, or have they been real issues? Do you regret your choice, or have you been satisfied with the decision?

Also: is a small overhang (1” from cabinet box, 0.25” past the doors) a good compromise? Or is it neither here nor there (i.e. it doesn’t help with spills and crumbs, but also doesn’t look as sleek as the completely flush)
