Sink in front of low window?
Comments (16)I was just going to suggest the same thing as Auchmedden and Gail. This is the perfect place for a farm sink, pulled forward a few inches, then actually make use of the space behind the sink. - You could have a 'trough' made out of sheet metal and store your unattractive but frequently used cleaning products back there -- ie dish soap & sponge -- so they'd be out of sight but fabulously handy. Commercial restaurants and bars have things called 'Speed Rails' to hold bottles that could also be attached to the back of a cabinet. - Or get/build a nice planter there for herbs of small seasonal plants. - Or simply water-proof the area and show your neighbors a collection of small colored glass bottles. You might also want to look at more of a 'sink stand' type setup rather than a 'standard cabinet'. In case you haven't seen them, a sink stand would be a low table with a farm or stone sink simply set on top of it. The downside would be that the countertops would stop several inches short of the sink sides, so there'd be some loss of practicality....See MoreWill I regret not having disposal in prep sink?
Comments (27)With all due respect, Breeze: no to the soap dispensers. I mean, it's =0.02 of course. But that's a definite no from where I sit. I realize I'm in the minority, or at least those of us not annealed to our soap dispensers are quiet about it, usually. I don't get it though. Why pass up the opportunity for a pretty version of such an every-day work item? I have this soap dispenser I got from Cost Plus for about .25 because it had a chip in it. It's made of marble with flowers chipped (deliberately) out of it so the chips are a grey color and the outside is shiny-black. I absolutely love this thing. It makes me so happy to see and use it! I actually bought it for my mom to use on the occasional week here or there once per year that she might visit. And then I thought how silly it was for this lovely item to sit fallow the rest of the year, so now I have it next to my prep sink. It's heavy so it doesn't move around and I can adjust where it does go to make room for a compost bucket up top if needed or extra dishes drying as needed. It's pretty, it's flexible, it's changeable, not that I can envision wanting to... At my other sink I have a beautiful hand-painted glass soap dispenser of Maine lupines, which lets me dream and wish wish wish they held the view out my window. sigh. You don't want to know what's really out my window.... If I'd bought an ugly matchy soap dispenser, it (a) would be on the fritz, probably and (b) would deprive me of the opportunity to enjoy this functional art. So I'm just putting in a word for the minority: no GD, don't miss it; no soap dispenser, wouldn't want it. :) Isn't it fun to disagree about such utterly subjective things? WWBITOTK? Comments (18)I dunno Japhynmarley, but if you can't find your window very often, you should probably seek professional help. :) Paying someone to make your window go away, that's a different matter, and I've never done it. Now I'm wondering if there isn't some kind of periscope thingy we could install where we want windows. There should be something like that. Perhaps that's our first $ million? Sounds like a market for Bill Gates. Hmmmm.......See MoreWill I regret 24 inch microwave over range?
Comments (40)It's always hilarious to see posts on Houzz about small kitchens. Especially comments that are like "You MUST reconfigure to get a larger range!!!!!" I currently have a 20" range in my studio condo and it's perfectly good for me. I'll have a 24" one in my remodel and am also looking for 24" OTR microwaves. There is no other space for a microwave without taking away storage space. And no, I can't just cut a hole in my condo building to be able to vent to the outside. Every studio unit in my building (including mine) also has the range next to the wall and all that's required is 2" of clearance space and a non combustible material right next to it. Everyone just tiles around the range. Does anyone have opinions on XO appliances? They also have a 24" otr option, but I can find no reviews anywhere. "It’s a white elephant choice. Just like the 24” range." I swear everyone on Houzz must live in the suburbs in 3000+ sf houses lollllllllllllll. 24" range is NOT a white elephant in a city with small dwellings....See Morea2gemini
