Stainless Warming Shelf over Range--Any Regrets?
Comments (3)We have the 24" backguard with shelf. We are quite happy with it except for one thing. The shelf isn't adjustable. Our friends have this same set up and their shelf lines up with the bottom of their upper cabinets. One thing we didn't check was the height of the stainless shelf with the bottom of OUR cabinets (I guess we just assumed it would line up like our friends). But our shelf ended up being about 4 inches higher than the bottom of our cabinets so it isn't as nice visually. It's not really a problem, but we were just taken by surprise. As I recall, it is a bit on the pricey side so you might see if a metal fabricator can make something similar for less money. I believe some people on GW have done that....See MoreReady to install 22inch OTR microwave in 24in cabinet
Comments (8)They're installing a 22" OTR micro under the 24" wall cabinet, which presumably sits over their smaller 24" range. Personally I can't imagine an issue with using wood fillers. They'll be up at the level of the microwave, and I presume you have wood cabinets on either side of your 24" range dropping to 18-19" off the counter surface. What kind of range is it? There should be specs detailing the required space above the range before any combustible materials are allowed. Given these trim pieces would only encroach over the range area by 1" on either side, I wouldn't worry about it - unless you go crazy with greasy flambe cooking on your 24" cooker ;) Otherwise some simple metal trim painted white to match the micro would be relatively easy to make up using aluminum readily available at Home Depot or something - they should sell 1" x 1" aluminum stock (L shaped or full box) that you can cut easily with a hacksaw, sand the edges smooth and hit with some white Tremclad. Would cost you $10-$20 all in....See MoreWhat is the best 30 inch over the range microwave?
Comments (3)I have a KA overhead Microwave/Fan. I love the look (SS) and oven operation (not a convection) but it is all but useless for ventingÂ. and I mean really useless. I believe that most, if not all, overhead comboÂs are bad at venting, so be forewarned. KC...See More24' Range: Regrets, Advice
Comments (13)As long as you have front controls, you can have the same burner space as four burners of a 36" range and that's one more than most folks will use at any given time. You would also have an oven interior that would probably be at least as large as the older 27" oven I had in my last house. I had one size cookie sheet and my largest roasting pan that were just barely too big. All my other cookie sheets and pans fit, and that was plenty. If I had a tiny kitchen, I would go for appliances that fit the space and gave maximum performance of the kitchen as a whole. I spent 4 years in that last house I mentioned cooking for a family of four plus extended family and guests on two burners (the other side was a grill that didn't get hot enough to cook and the prior owners apparently took the other burner module with them). One of those two burners didn't work properly and they were both prone to tilting. No parts available. I had a single 27" oven with an unusually small interior and a microwave. The cooktop and ovens here weren't a lot better for teh next 4 years, and then we had the kitchen torn out and prepared meals with a toaster oven, a camping stove and a micro. You can make do with a lot less than you would want, but maximizing the use of limited space for storage, working and cooking is wonderful....See Moresocks
