I've got Cantaloupe!!
Comments (11)the trellises are made w/8 ft sections of 3/4" wood. i just put one in each corner and brought them together like a teepee. after tying them i did go back and put screws in to stabilize them in wind and rain (i have them in raised beds). it was so simple, although the whole neighborhood was wondering about the teepees in april while nothing else was in the garden. it was easy, inexpensive and very functional, although i have to go out almost everyday and tie up the loose vines, it seems like everytime i tie one up another one decides to start growing. I have cantaloupe and watermelon growing in the same bed, i dropped down four pieces of twine and attached them to the bed (you could stake them in the ground if you arent using beds)and i planted one plant at each twine/pole, so i have 8 plants in one bed. i did the same thing with my cukes and peas, but with the peas i have 16 plants. this is my first year with this system, so far so good. PEAS- 16 plants CUKES-can u believe this is only 8 plants!!! in this last picture you can see the entire trellis.......See MoreIt's got stuff in it now! (Warning - Lots of Photos!)
Comments (11)Thanks, everyone! MWheel, my Grandmother's china is called Silver Moon and it's by Warwick. I'll attach a link at the bottom, where you can see an example of it. Jazmynsmom, the best compliment I've gotten lately was when a friend came over and was looking at the cabinet when it was only halfway done. She said, "I never would have recognized it's potential!" and I felt flattered. I thought I'd always had a pretty good eye for that sort of thing. :-) Here is a link that might be useful: Warwick Silver Moon...See MoreI've got a yucky mess.
Comments (7)Natural charcoal type stuff could come from your woodstove, as almost entirely burned wood. Alternatively, it could come from Malaysia or Indonesia. What you are being warned off of is the use of briquettes, which have a binding material that is clay like, and might have petroleum products mixed in. Growing up in Denver, briquettes were all that were available. Maybe that has changed. I do not know if this helps your case, but I use wood ash to keep pH high. It helps alot with the ickiest sour smells....See MoreHelp! I've got spring fever! I've been ordering . . .
Comments (34)Brenda, it is nice when even family members are enablers, eh? LOL!! I actually keep telling my husband "There's this garden in Western NY that someday we have to go visit!" I would love to see your beautiful garden some day. The different areas you have planted and the variety is amazing. I've been lusting for some more photos from you. Would love to see what you have on file for your veggie garden from last year if you have any time to post some. Goodness! I finally cracked open the catalog for my local nursery who I really like to support. She's a true plantswoman who I so enjoy chatting with, etc. I just sent an email over to her with my "list" (is was a long one) of plants to put aside for me for pickup when they open. It's a terrible habit I have of giving her a list each year for pickup. But my birthday is always right around when she opens, so it's a birthday present, right?!?! LOL!...See Morewildchild2x2
