Chili Peppers and Bell Peppers
Comments (2)The bells are suffering from blossom end rot, caused by uneven watering or too much water. Search the FAQ forum for more information. A word about pots: How big are they? If they are less than 5-gallon containers you will have a hard time growing anything substantial. There will be too little soil to energize the plants, and they will dry out too quickly. If you are serious about growing things you must start with containers of at least 5 gallons. Bigger if you can find them or buy them. Then you have to fill them with good soil. "Pots" are okay for an herb or two, but not if you want stuffing peppers....See MoreWhere/When Can I Buy Fresh Chilis?
Comments (3)Really you just need to google "pepper mash" or "fresh chilis" or something similiar, there are many many places that sell fresh, frozen, or fermented mashes. Cross country nursery sells fresh pods in the fall, Jim at Mild to Wild sells tubs of pure mash, Pedilogues sells mash, there are some people on ebay that sell mash, you can get fresh or smoked/peeled numex styles from various places in new mexico in the fall, etc. I am sure there are lots more places I am not thinking about that other people will chime in about. kendra...See MoreWhere/When Can I Buy Fresh Rare Chilis?

Comments (2)Ming's quest or Simply Ming TV shows recipes. Didn't see a search engine though. http://www.ming.com/simplyming/recipearchive.htm I don't know what he called the show but he has had several where he made different Asian Hot sauces on them. Google Sambal oelek recipes http://www.recipezaar.com/30248 http://www.recipesource.com/ethnic/asia/indonesian/00/rec0038.html http://www.foodsubs.com/CondimntAsia.html Red Chile = 30,000-50,000 scoville units in general depending on variety and growing conditions. In general a lot of the oriental pods are C.Annuum or C.Frutescense from the recipes I've seen and seeds I've gotten or grown. Not C.Chinense which usually corners the market for hot. I've never tasted any Oriental sauces/pastes that were as hot as a lot of Jamaican Jerk sauces and some of the Indian stuff. India has the hottest peppers so far I think. Nagas and their relatives. Not that some oriental pods are something to sneeze at...Just not in the same ballpark. I also wouldn't be suprised that you find out that all the commercial sauce companies use whatever pepper they can get at a good price and depending on what they are using at the time the recipe changes so that whatever pepper they have in stock always makes the same sauce as far as heat and taste goes. The only exception would be if they grow their own chiles and never have crop failure....See More- 6 years ago
