Comments (16)Oh, great idea, rhome! Summer, sinks don't have to go under a window. A poster here asked not that long ago to see photos of kitchens with sinks not under a window. You might find that thread via a search. If I can remember the name of the person who owns a kitchen with a corner sink not under a window but near one, I'll post a link to her finished kitchen pics. In the meantime, here are some pics courtesy of houzz.com [[(https://www.houzz.com/photos/case-design-remodeling-inc-traditional-kitchen-dc-metro-phvw-vp~92625) [traditional kitchen design[(https://www.houzz.com/photos/traditional-kitchen-ideas-phbr1-bp~t_709~s_2107) by dc metro kitchen and bath Case Design/Remodeling, Inc. When the DW is open, you won't have room to stand at the sink. That's why I placed a 12" cab between 42" corner sink cab and DW. One less corner cab with its awkward storage is a plus. A downside is that it's a bit more crowded to have two people at the sink. And if you're vertically challenged like I am ;-) wiping behind the sink requires lots of stretching and contortions (I currently have a corner sink set-up). Some people love them, some detest them. I like mine but even so, I'm not keeping it when we remodel. We're moving the cook top off the island and I need to shift the sink out of the corner so that I gain more prep room between sink and cook top. It will still be under a window because we're replacing the existing window with one that is 6" wider. Enlarging the window or shifting the one you have to the left is an option for you. You'll need to decide whether a corner sink is a good choice in order to keep the other window and have more counter between sink and range. Maybe you can find one at a local kitchen showroom to try out....See MoreKitchen remodel - need layout recommendations
Comments (15)The peak of the roof runs parallel to the sink and stove cabinets. We have PEX plumbing (previous slab leak) so plumbing comes in from the celling. If wall is removed, we will have to do some floor work for plumbing. The current downdraft goes up the wall, into the attic and out the roof. So I am planning on converting to a more efficient vent hood vs downdraft. I do not like gas cooktops with downdrafts. It pulls the flame and causes uneven cooking imo....See MoreKitchen Layout Remodel Input
Comments (1)I’m unable to edit the post, but it took out all of the numbering I included so it looks like a bunch of run on sentences. I tried to copy it below and add some spacing. Hope this reads better for the questions section. Some of the things we need to do to make this new layout work are. We do have a raised foundation with a crawl space underneath. close up a window because it will be next to the range and we would utilize that space for cabinets. There are window/ French door along side the family room to patio wall and windows in the family room so at this point we aren’t planning to add another window. tear down part of the wall where the storage is make the storage smaller move the electrical panel which is currently on the storage wall. add a wall to the ceiling on the left side of the range counter to close off the pantry Questions: 8 foot counter with 30 inch range oven combo along the wall. Thinking 8 feet will be sufficient? That would leave 10 feet x18 ft for the family room. We would put up a drywall where the staircase ceiling starts to slope where the left side of the counter is. Would that be weird? 8x4 ft or 8x5 ft island? We would like to put a 36 inch apron sink and have the microwave and dishwasher, and trash bin in the island with additional storage. Would like to have seating for 4 of us to sit together. I read the minimum is 2 ft per seat but it might be kind of tight. Would it be weird to have a 36 inch sink and a 30 inch range behind it? the under staircase area where it starts to slow will be converted to a pantry with pocket door. This will stick out a little a foot compared to the range counter next to it. Is that weird? This would be about 3 feet wide and not all of the space is able to be utilized because it’s under the staircase. along the left hand side of the wall which is 9’10’’ we would like to put an appliance garage, 36 inch refrigerator and a 4.5 foot desk for the kids to do homework. with the island and range counter space, I think I’m calculating about 10 feet (but I didn’t count the depth of the island). I read you need at last 13 ft of counter space. Do you think this would be an issue? is the layout a bit funny because it’s not a perfect L shape with island? The pantry wall sticks out a little compared to the range counter against the wall. Appreciate for anyone providing any insights. Best, Alice...See MoreHELP! Comments (8)Thank you both very much for your responses! Biondanonima, we just have 2 adults and one small child. Mostly it's one cook, because right now we just get in each other's way. I agree that placing range and fridge on the east wall could create a lot of distance - would you consider that helpful for two cooks, or would it just be less efficient for one? Would having range and fridge side by side be awkward/an eyesore? Renan, I very much appreciate the diagram - I had a 2nd company here today to take measurements for a quote, and offer thoughts on design, and we talked about a breakfast bar the way you've illustrated it. It very nice to see it drawn up! It does look functional, and I totally agree with inverting the opening of the side door in that scenario. Curious about the 5'3" space on the northeast corner - were you being generous or would you say that is a firm distance for clearance/capping the end of the counter?...See MoreHello Home
