24' x 24' tile floor pics?
Comments (6)Hmm... thanks. Point well taken Bahacca - no doubt about the contemporary vibe in the house. It has a very classy yet contemporary feel. Mostly grays and taupes, clean lines, Alaska White granite in the kitchen and laundry, Carrera marble in the bathrooms, the Prince & Dutchess floor, Daltile Fabrique (Blanc Linen) in one shower, Kimono Silk (Morning Dove) in the other, linear glass accent tiles in the showers and tub surrounds, brushed nickle hardware and stainless appliances, crystal pendant lights, espresso cabs... And thanks for the photo Angie. That does help me visualize it! I guess when I think about it Carrera marble and offset layout don't belong in the same sentence, do they? The floor is just so plain (boring? but a nice background for the other things I think) that I thought maybe it would work. And if I do straight set and the lines aren't perfect I'll notice it forever, but... guess the builder just needs to make sure things are square! :)...See MoreTiling a "backsplash" on a non-working kitchen wall. Comments (20)Fori is extremely displeased, haha. I would gladly help you if I could, but I have so much to learn yet! I just need to get the BF to let me have a go at the wet saw. I think I would totally enjoy the whole tile cutting process - I have enough "artsy-craftsy" in me that it's kinda right up my alley. rebunky, I totally get it. I have SO many projects that are on my to-do list. *sigh* Never enough time. Yanno, it's funny, back when I started this whole update project (not a remodel - nothing so grand as what you all are doing!) I was taking trash out one night and a neighbor stopped by to chat. I told her I was painting my cabinets and she mentioned that she had been working on her kitchen for a year. And I remember thinking..."A year?!? What the heck? She's retired what is taking her so long??" HAHAHAHA!!! I was clueless. A noob. I am terrible at visualizing changes - I have to see pics of how it could look. And even then, I am terrible at making a decision. So I am very thankful for those here have more experience and a better "eye" that I do....See Morerug in kitchen (hardwood floors) Yay or Nay?
Comments (6)I would steer clear of wool, too. As hard wearing as wool is, kitchens are sloppy places so make your life easier. I have a washable cotton rug from Hook & Loom in my kitchen. It's between my stove and my sink so it gets plenty of abuse. I have washed it at least a dozen times, colors have not changed and there's not a loose thread on it anywhere....See MoreCORK FLOORING: Yay or Nay?
Comments (19)A glue down cork tile is a different beast than the easier to install (and therefore cheaper at the end of the day) cork floating floor. A glue down tile is the creme de la creme of cork flooring products. It requires a seasoned, skilled installer who knows EXACTLY what they are doing and WHY they are doing it. The cost to install a glue down cork tile = same as porcelain or stone. Then the cost of the product + adhesive + polyurethane becomes one of the most expensive wood flooring products we have. A glue down tile is water proof (so long as you use polyurethane AFTER the install). it is allowed in bathrooms and in kitchens. It has a longevity second only to stone (the Library of Congress received their cork floor in the 1880's and it is still going strong). The most experienced installer I know is capable of laying 300ft in one day. That's it. Even with two people, it only gets you 500sf per day. It is a slow process. A cork floating floor is a form of laminate with cork on the top, HDF in the middle and then cork on the bottom. It is a more costly floor to PURCHASE but the install is the same as vinyl click flooring (about $3/sf or so). It is fast and easy to install. It is allowed in kitchens and entrance ways (so long as you follow the rule for seam sealer or extra polyurethane). It is NOT allowed in bathrooms - ever....See MoreRelated Professionals
