I would get a low display case and put it in between the two IKEA chairs. It looks like you have a lot of collectibles or decor so something with glass doors. Then you can utilize that whole wall for photos. A light colored ottoman for sectional and maybe a clock above the fireplace.

@Patricia Colwell Consulting: thanks. I do not think that putting a television on the L-shaped wall will make sense, since the L-shape is not in the center of the sectional.

Out of curiosity, why do you think the sectional is not right?

One plausible idea is to make a reading corner in the corner of the L-shaped sectional, and place a book case..

First measure to see if your new sofa will fit in the corner so you can face the windows while sitting in it. Then, if it does, and if you like it there, rethink the rest of your furnishings.

The chairs seem a fit with an informal room - and if the same I sat in, comfy enough. :)

If this is a conversational space, then there should be one or more chairs facing the couch, at conversational distance. I'd do an armchair, floor lamp for reading, and a low bookcase for books, display, and generally a cozy feeling. Then this zone can double for chat or for reading by oneself.

I do feel like there is information missing, however -- for example is there a doorway at the near end of the couch? That might change my idea of what should be in that space...

I am not keen on making the corner as a separate conversational space, although I may want to reuse the chairs to circle around the sectional in case we have a larger group in the house.

Could you post a floorplan with the dimensions of your walls and the furniture pieces that are staying? You will get better and more specific advice. Pretty space, is your style basically contemporary modern?

Is that a reversible chaise sofa so you can flip the chaise from right to left, or are you stuck with it as is? When in doubt, move it out, and you'll get a new perspective. Remove the 3 chairs, footstool and ottoman from the space. Art, rug and decor items should go as well. Take standard pix that allow us to understand space and proportion of the room and sectional. Please take one standing at the dining table and shooting back toward the doorway. Give us measurements, and a rough floor plan if you can. How long and deep is the sectional? What to you plan to do in this room? TV, games, conversation, etc.

Thanks @decoenthusiaste I have taken more pictures w/o the chairs and the footstool of the area. This is our living room + family room in a small single family house. I have not removed the ottoman from the picture, but I am planning on removing it as well.

The dimensions of the L-shaped area are 105'' X 49''. The sectional's chaise cannot be reversed (Even though the sectional might look too big, we still like it since its v comfy and useful)

If you like it then really that us a done deal. IMO it is too big and the wrong piece for seating in the space. Even if the TV is not inthe center of the sectional it is still IMO the best use of that space since I don’t see you TV anywhere else.

If you plan on TV, that is really the only place for it. Otherwise, you could make a reading corner, a corner office, a play area, etc. What is the main activity you want to see happen in the room? I have to agree that a sectional is not a good choice for this room. It severely limits rearranging. Next time you have a living room to furnish, consider a 3-seat sofa and two armchairs for the base of the room. You'll find it much easier to work with.

For the corner - one very comfy recliner, positioned at an angle and pulled out from the corner far enough to be part of the conversation space and also to allow the recliner to recline. Along the blank wall of the corner (the wall without the ottoman now), a narrow drawer unit like the one that everdebz pictured above. Maybe a table lamp on top, or maybe a floor lamp next to it. Photos or some other wall decor above. For the rest of the room, a larger rug, or maybe the same rug pulled farther into the center of the room, and maybe more substantial coffee table ottoman or a pair of cubes.

I'm with hu -- that is, add one comfy chair that is part of the conversational circle (like far left chair in your original post), and otherwise use this space as "entry", with a dresser or console where the ottoman used to be, with a bowl for keys/mail, a lamp, etc. Or you could use a bookcase to allow for some display in addition to the "entry table" function. Or you could even have a narrow bench with a basket underneath if you need people to take off shoes from this entrance.

Thank you all! I am planning on getting two of these narrow bookshelves with a dresser in the middle. I might also add a chair to the small side of the L. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

No, there won't be a TV. I'll put an art above the dresser.

Here are some ideas on how you could do up your corner space. As it is just opposite the entry door, you may want to create an entryway. You could add a dresser/ storage with some art above (image 1)

You could also add a slim console and a couple of chairs (image 2&3). A decorative mirror may also be something to consider here. If you'd like more storage you can also use a tall bookcase like the one you linked above. I'd recommend one large bookcase as opposed to the 2 you were considering.

Definitely would not shove the credenza/dresser into the corner -- would at least want something else there.

If there is enough wall to center the two chairs, with art above each across from and with the sofa, do so -- even if it means changing the coffee table to a smaller one to enable foot traffic thru the room.
