Grout or Epoxy for no stain on shower floor ?
Comments (18)One of my siblings started that profile, I don't keep tabs on them. I started mine roughly 4 yrs ago under a different name. Nice try though. Kelly (cx) gives good info but even he makes mistakes and we've gone behind him to fix them. (We live in the same town) If I'm correct, he does Schluter showers..or is it Kerdi? We don't deal with those products so I'm not sure. He's a nice man and he'll talk your ear off. Last time I saw him, he came in inquiring about what type of adhesive to use for a product. That was years ago. And yes pippabean, I only recommend standard sanded grout for the wet floor of the shower. We mainly deal with traditional mortar beds in the shower, these beds have pan liners in them. The pan liner is there to collect any water that escapes the drain into the mortar bad. A standard sanded grout is needed to allow this moisture to escape properly. Upgraded grouts like epoxy and single component grouts do not allow moisture or gasses to pass through, trapping the moisture in the pan liner. --Now, hindsight is foresight and I should have asked if the OP knew what type of bed was installed. (most homeowners wont know) But then again, I will still only recommend sanded grout. We've been down that road and I sure as heck don't want the OP, or anyone else, to go down that road. That could easily be a $1000+ repair. We've been in business since 1971. We've made mistakes and we've learned from them. My goal on this site is to offer advise and hopefully steer that consumer away from a costly mistake. In the end, it's their choice....See MoreWhat brand and kind of grout for floor and shower tile? Comments (4)I bought the 15 boxes of tiles at Lowe's. Waited for them to pull them off of a pallet with all the same lot number. Went to do other stuff. Went back to Lowe's. Gave up after 45 minutes. Told them I would be back later that night. Called them mid afternoon to make sure the tiles were pulled. They said they were. Went back at 6:30 p.m.. Not pulled yet. I ordered 10 more boxes for the other bathroom. Waited a half hour, then told them I would pick them up Tuesday morning. Went this morning and they were still not pulled. I left while they pulled the tiles, and went back after lunch. Still not pulled. I waited a half hour, then got a refund of the $625.00. Good grief! So, I will be looking for a new tile, probably 12" x 12" or maybe 18" x 18". That is the largest tile I have ever set. No problems whatsoever with it. I just have to find the right tile that I can set. No tile pros around here, just people who tile and say they are pros. Been there...done that. I can do better than the pretend tile guys around here. Very, very rural area! I still have drywall texture to fix that a supposed pro did. I paid someone else to fix it, but it still looks bad. Not paying a third so-called pro. I will learn to do it myself. Wish I lived in a larger town with actual pros!...See MoreHELP! One year old shower floor grout has holes!!
Comments (0)Recently remodeled master bath. Immediately after shower floor was grouted, pinholes appeared in the grout. Contratctor said this sometimes happens and applied another layer of grout over the floor. Well, only one year later and we are seeing holes even bigger than the original pin size. There are about 3 or 4 and potentially more. Contractor is sending floor guy for ”touch up”, but we are thinking this needs more than just a touch up, and probably needs to be redone. Any suggestions and advice welcome. Thank you....See MoreFloor and Shower Floor Tile advice please!
Comments (4)We have that floor in our shower, in the medium gray color. White marble-like walls. (Nanoglass from tilebar.com) Main floor is very similar medium grey color, only much larger, 24" x 24" tiles. Our vanity countertop is white quartz. We love it. Having said that, our bathroom is on the east side and has 4 windows plus a skylight, so there is a lot of light. You will need small tiles on the shower floor, both to accommodate the sloping to the drain and for traction via the grout. I believe some one told me (or I read here) that the largest shower floor tile size recommended is 2"x 2". The main bathroom floor can be any size you like. https://www.mosaictileco.com/SelectedTile.aspx?SKU=15EDGSUP1MM...See Moredancingqueen7827
