Opinions please, I'm second guessing my colors
Comments (35)A mood board is a great idea. Force yourself to prioritize. What is the one piece you really don't want to give up. I'm betting its the stove. (That would be mine! That stove is to die for!) So make everything work with that. On my monitor I hadn't seen pink in the granite. Now knowing that, I'd say the cherry color in the cabinet wood is just fine with the granite you chose. Is the color of the stove also present in the granite slab? If it is, you are good. its really hard to judge color from a photo posted online, so here's one 'rule' that may help you focus in on what you -may- want to consider changing. If the color, or any shade of that color is in your granite slab, you can use it in the room. An exact match is not interesting or necessary. Second, you usually want a dominant tome and then other colors you bring out of that slab will be accents, so you won't use so much of them. Now, there are a million caveats to that, and of course, breaking the rules can bring fantastically stunning drama, but I think if you start with that one rule as a starting place, your own vision will begin to materialize. Whatever feels good to you will work. Just keep at it until it gels for you. With all the ideas coming from folks here and what you can see because you're looking directly at the different colors and where they will be in relation to each other, and considering the light in the room, it will begin to come together and you'll get a feel for where you will or won't want to challenge color 'rules'. I should say all of the above goes out the window if you're going for a monochromatic look. LOL BTW, I love my miele vacuum and I didn't even know they make dishwashers, but I can wax poetic about my bosch dishwasher. In addition to how well it functions, I'm very sensitive to background noise and its sooo quiet. Since its the way your faucet will stay where you aim it that really attracts you to it, maybe look at upscale stylized commercial configurations. I don't have any experience to draw on, its just a thought....See MoreSecond guessing myself... Granite will be fabricated next week!

LOL Frugal we had one of those too, except our house was built in the 60s, added on to several times, remodeled last in the late 90s. Too bad they didn't fix the electrical. We took it off. Looks like it would be an easy job. You could get a cabinet maker to make another set uppers to match yours and stack them on top and add new crown molding. The wood grains are lovely. We actually matched our new cabinets' stain color with our old oak trim that we are reusing. Perfect match. We had a ton of oak wood from the suspended ceiling. Check out this lowered ceiling and all the oak boards they used. It had 12' ceilings above all that ugly plastic stuff. I have about 120 of those plastic rectangles that were in the suspended ceiling. I doubt Habitat for Humanity will take them. ðÂÂÂ...See MoreSecond guessing every decision so far... right now metal finishes
Comments (20)I think most people assume that the Edison filament bulbs provide enough light since you see them everywhere. But they aren't meant for task lighting over an island. There's a discussion in Home Decor now about those bulbs. I copied this from Brushworks' post: A decent amount of work light is about 800 lumens minium. The Edison incandescent averages less than 350 lumens. The Edison LED isn't much better at 450 lumens. Great for lanterns or exposed bulb application. The Edison Vintage LED temperature is 2200 which is slightly above candle light. Rejuvenation recommends using the satin etch or opal shades with regular bulbs....See Moresecond guessing my prep sink
Comments (14)Don't put it on the corner. You have no landing space beside the fridge, so the island will be your landing space and also a space to drop groceries for loading to the fridge. I would move the prep sink farther to the right (as you face it). We spend more time prepping beside a sink than standing in front of it, so even centered on the range would be better than the corner. Prep sink should be at least 18" wide. You didn't ask for advice about the overall plan, but: What is left of the plan--a wall or is it open? Can the clean-up sink go under the other window, with the DW to the left? That would get the clean-up sink out of the prep triangle, and the corner wouldn't be so crowded--the path from fridge to prep sink or range wouldn't need to pass anyone at the main sink, via the too-narrow aisle. That would also give you space to move the oven and fridge toward the back wall, to get the fridge closer to the prep area. As a matter of fact, I would move the island back a few inches, to give you a wider work aisle, and make the island less deep--42" will be sufficient for each. Will you have a MW with the ovens? If not, you could use a MW drawer on the corner of the island, across from the fridge. Appliance garages: NKBA guidelines New to Kitchens? Read me first....See MoreMark Eric Benner - Architects, Ltd.
