Sweet Lilian...not so sweet right now!
Comments (27)Frank, she's already a beauty, and she's not fully open! Just wait until all the buds open! As I said, it was one of my favorites! Very prolific bloomer... although, all my attempts at pollinating failed. I'll catch it next bloom cycle. Sweet Lilian also proved to be very photogenic! I took the most photos of this particular variety. Viagrow... hahaha! So, what happens if the stem is erect for more than 4 hours? Should you consult a horticulturist? LOL! Larissa, in today's world, you sort of have to help your kids develop a thick skin so they're ready for whatever life throws at them. We're the type of parents that never shielded our kids from the uglier side of life... we were always very open, encouraging them to question the world around them, and to discuss things they weren't sure about. Life is tough... kids need to develop good coping skills! One of our favorite lines was, and still is: Life is full of choices... for every choice there is a consequence... think hard before making your choices! When our kids were teens, our house was the favorite hangout... there were always other kids at our house. They would all come over after school and hang out, play video games, listen to music... my fridge got a ton of mileage! I think we fed the neighborhood! You should hear some of the stories from parties at our house! Our motto was: Don't fall asleep before we do! Oh, the jokes we played on people! Ahh... great memories! Hilarious memories! We never had a lot of money, but we did have a lot of fun! Our kids have some awesome memories to take with them through life... that much is certain!...See MoreSo, so, so close...now I need help with the last big decision
Comments (26)divamum, it was crazy fast, once it finally got rolling! I sat with a big empty box of a room for about three weeks waiting for the cabinet guy. But once he started installing, that meant Joshua could come put in my soapstone, and everything else just fell into place very quickly. I went from NOTHING to almost everything in literally 48 hours. I think that, by the end of this week, I'll be done with everything in the kitchen, except of course the backsplash! :) malhgold, the range is an Aga Legacy--and the gas is finally turned on!! Woohooo!! Wouldn't you know it, though, I have to teach tonight and then I'm going out of town for two days, so I won't be able to actually cook on it until Friday. Ugh!! fern4, the wood is cherry in a natural finish. Thanks so much for the McIntyre link. There are some beautiful options there. I will have to spend some time perusing! plllog, one of my first choices was a pale green glass tile with a little cobalt glass thrown in for accent pieces. I may have to revisit that. If I can find the pics again, I'll post them. I'm loving these suggestions. Sometimes my head gets stuck on one thing and, even though I know it's not what I want, I can't move past it. This is really helping me think outside my self-imposed box....See MoreOur split-foyer face lift: second guessing dormer and lack of portico
Comments (30)I am very grateful for your creativity and time in working out that idea for us JDS! The contributions you make on this forum are amazing. I think the idea of a sky light to balance the loss of light throught the front door from the entry overhang is very clever. Overall, I think the shelter at the door is a nice improvement! Atlas, the new door is taller in real life than the Sketch-up file I sent to you (as mentioned). The door is 8 foot with a transom adding an extra 14 inches of height over top. I'm guessing a taller roof over the tall door would not work as what you show is a nice looking extension to the existing roof (same pitch as existing roof). Any way to change it to accommodate the tall door's height? Again thank you for lending your creative eye to our house elevation,. Carol...See MoreSecond guessing countertop decision
Comments (15)Yes. The PA turns very black after oiling/waxing. From a short distance it reads solid black,. Up close there are small veins and color variations. Scratches blend in after oiling and can really only be seen up close and if you are obsessively looking for them (that would be me). I have only waxed up to an inch from the wall because my installer said it would be better for tiling if there was no oil or wax where the counter meets the wall. I'm also not going to apply any more wax or oil until all work has ceased because the workers who are fixing a multitude of mistakes make a huge mess and I don't want to rub any debris into the counter. I also left my window ledge unoiled because the windows and screens are filthy from construction and I don't want to wax until it's all cleaned up. My DH just asked me if I regret choosing soapstone and my answer is a resounding no! I do love them and will relax when the kitchen is done, workers are out of my house, and I can get into a rhythm in my new kitchen....See Morehsw_sc
