Coiled hose: Does anyone have one you like?
Comments (5)I came to hate it. I bought it b/c I only had a short distance to water. But it still needed to be stretched to get to the furthest point. It's just like the curly telephone lines (remember those?) after a lot of stretching it inevitably begins to kink. No matter how careful you are about coiling it up, it will begin to take on a life of its own. If its inexpensive and convenient, do it. Just don't expect to get more than two years of "normal" life out of it, if you are watering anything that requires it to be fully stretched out often. It is probably worth $10 or $15 bucks a season. Comments (7)Mary - I would not be without these. I have them currently in the new bed under the huge balsam (read dry part-shade), and plan to add emitters for the pots I put out. Eventually, as budget allows, all of my beds will have them. I leave them on a slow trickle all the time. I am on a well-system, and it seems to be just fine. Now that I have decided that the lines are where I want them, I will bury them. I think that is the trick - to make sure they are getting the important bits before you finalize. The water then soaks out from there, and the roots will go to the source. I don't use the ones that spray, but rather the ones that sweat though the pipe/tube. I saw this system years ago at Dizzy World. In the heat and humidity of the FL summer, the impatience still wilted from the heat, but the gardeners there said they were not damaged, and came back when the mid-day heat subsided. It will definitely cut down on your watering chores, and make your plants much happier!! Nancy....See MoreTime to replace my soaker hoses, Best on market now?
Comments (9)keep the hose out of sun light and flush it often it will last longer. If you want to "up" quality switch to 1/2" landscape drip line. I would suggest one with weep holes every 18" (you can get lines with different spacing). These use water even more efficiently than "soaker" hoses. Higher quality ones have weep holes that do not draw back water (and soil) into them when you turn off the water (which creates back pressure). That too will make it last longer. You will need a 1/2" line coupler to hook to a standard hose and a plug for each end. "T"'s, filters, pressure regulators and valves can also be purchased to set up several lines to one hose adapter and valves installed to only run a few lines at a time. Most, if not all, these parts can be found at home centers. If not landscape supply or larger nurseries generally have them. It is best kept out of the sun to last longer as well. Using a filter trap on your water source before it enters the line will help it last longer. "Lay flat" drip tape is another possibility. Though it can be used for several years depending on quality and setup. It will probably not last 10 years and also will require some adapters/filters. Here is a link that might be useful: example of 1/2...See Moreball joint at junction of wand and pulldown hose (on faucets)
Comments (5)I am searching for a faucet that allows the nozzle to pivot around the sink and stay where it is dirrected without being held. I think these ball joints may be the answer. I was looking for a cosmetic angle of the nozzle, but a ball joint at the top of the hose would be great. I was at lowes last night, the closer it gets to faucet time the more likely it will come from there, and their cheapest chrome faucet ($98) happened to be a Peerless that had this feature. It was lacking in a pause button and probably in quality, but the floor model stayed where I directed it. I am still hoping to find a few more so i can have a choice. I guess I should plan on going back to the plumbing stores and rechecking the brands mentioned above, thank you for the list. Does anyone else have a faucet that can do this and who makes it?...See Moregrapefruit1_ar
