Best couches- please give me advice

I'm looking to buy two couches for my living room......a design that has them facing each other with a marble topped(I think) coffee table in between. I had very traditional furniture before and am looking to lighten things- getting rid of my cherry pieces and large couches. Can anyone recommend a good couch- maybe leather. I read reviews of so many that are horrible. The couches I had lasted 30 years and look like new.

Look for manufacturers that are made in the U.S.A. and offer a lifetime warranty on frame and suspension - that is usually a good clue it is made well. 8-way hand tied springs are the gold standard, and sofas that feature that usually have quality construction throughout the piece. Some manufacturers do good sinuous springs, but some do not, so it's a little more iffy. I'm partial to Lee Industries and The MT Company and also love Carolina Custom Leather for leather pieces. These are what I sell so am most familiar with them. A seat cushion with innersprings will hold up the best. Avoid down unless you are okay with flipping and fluffing daily.

CR Laine (though I have read some reviews that their quality is suffering lately)

Romania gets bursts of Siberian cold air during winter that I'm afraid will kill your average Cedrus. Sounds like this tree is dead or will die in the next few winters. Your only hope is to have someone collect seeds of Cedrus libani ssp. stenocoma (Turkish Cedar) from the highest peaks of the Taurus mountains, which are also exposed to cold air from Siberia, and which should do fine in Romania's winters. Theoretically you can also find cold-hardy Cedrus deodara growing on the highest peaks of Afghanistan and Kashmir (Cedrus deodara 'Eisregen', Cedrus deodara 'Shalimar', Cedrus deodara 'Karl Fuchs' are some of the varieties people have already been proagated). There are huge differences in cold hardiness between cedars at lower elevations and higher elevations, even if they are the same species. Please join us for the plant swap at my house. It will either be the last weekend in May or the first weekend in June. This will be the 3rd year we are having this and there will be lots of plants to take home and everyone can give you some ideas. It is very laid back..... There is a thread already going on this. As far as your question.....IF you are planning on putting out annuals...then ususally after Derby. The soil needs to be warm. If you are thinking about perennials then it is fairly safe now.

I don't know about relamination but my quick reaction is that it isn't necessarily a problem for a good installer. We had our custom countetops created and installed here at our place. The man had to be here in order to do it. This was a job from scratch. I've just calculated: roughly 97 square feet, for 3 sections of counter, not including the butcher block my DH cut at the same time. Cost was $1500 for Formica 180 FX. Regular 90 degree edges. Only a couple tricky parts--a sink section that extends out to the window and bumps into the room and a diagonal seam in the corner. Two sink cut-outs and he and DH lifted in the cast iron sinks. Can't recall who put the goo under them. We disposed of the waste, did the cleanup. It took 2 days. We've done our DIY kitchen without a dumpster--we just have to be patient and fill our trash barrel to the brim each week to dispose of things, unless we have so much that we take a trailer to the municipal disposal site. Keep looking. Ask around--call a cupboard manufacturer and ask who they use. The guy who subcontracts regularly for the home improvement store is also very likely available without the middleman, for less money and may offer more options.

Best of luck with your remodel! Mine is in week six and heading into the homestretch! Things I hadn't thought of ahead of time that I wished I had - the lighting plan. Go to an lighting store with your layout and have them give you a recommendation on overhead and undercabinet lighting. There are so many options available today than just 6" cans. Also the color, location and orientation of the outlets, especially on the backsplash area. Paint color - took me 3 weeks to find a paint color I liked. Make sure you have extra trim - my contractor needed to use some extra trim molding so I had to order more which held things up. Also pick out your cabinet hardware and decide where you want to place them on the cabinets. As everyone said, take lots of pictures and get some earplugs! It can be very noisy at times! Good luck!

Thank you both. I put another post on today with a photo of the type of sofa I'm looking for. I did some research on Lee Industries and it seems like there are a fair number of people who are upset with their quality.

Yes, I've read those threads and know that there have been some unfortunate instances (no furniture company has 100% satisfaction), but I've been selling Lee for years and have had 99% of my customers be very happy. I contintue to recommend them without hesitation. Just make sure you use a good retailer that can guide you with the correct fabric and cushions for your preferences and will take care of any issues if they arise. Any time there's been something wrong, Lee has worked hard to fix it.
