Please help me design/style around this dark red living room wall
Comments (15)Thanks so much for reply. So this is my favorite abstract that formerly was in my old living room but this has a lot of pinks and pastels in it and it doesn't really go with all the brown in this shade of red I think. I also think that in my efforts to slowly get stuff to go with the red (global style pillows)- I may have gone too far with the other decor to make it work (even if it didn't clash with the brick red). The painting lives in my bedroom now usually- so it has a home at least but it for sure is more my aesthetic for a living room. Someting abour those three tapestries togegee just doesn't feel Right to me...or not finished at least. Any other ideas?...See MoreNew to Design: Living Room + Furniture + Decor
Comments (6)thanks for writing and suggestions! The green and white subway tiles are just to give some idea of the looks and colors that are being used elsewhere in the house, as well as the brass faucets. I would like to keep somewhat to a theme throughout the home. The wallpaper pictured is the exact wallpaper in the room - and is displayed on the "tv wall" and seating area in the potential floorpan pictured. I love the look of the big, heavy drapes and sort of fell for the way they cascade on the floor.. but, open to any suggestions in ANY part of the design. The fireplace (as is) is red brick with a crown moulding surround, not the barn wood beam shown - apologies for all those suggesting! I have considered painting the brick a white or black? I do intend on using a single sofa, but can't decide on material and color. I recently came across the green leather and got a little smitten, that's why there's two sofas shown. I do not intend on using a sectional in the space but my family does a lot of lounging and insist on being able to prop their feet or lie back - my intent was to get ottomans to bring to the sofa when it is time to lounge, creating that sectional option for comfort. I definitely love the look of a wingback chair and have several in my idea book, but haven't been able to settle on a fabric or style. Comments (2)You should incorporate some teal, but only with small pops. Boho is better suited for bold colors, but if you are leaning towards eclectic/ Scandinavian it may be a bit difficult especially with the drapery’s fabric and trim. Last two pictures may help. It’s difficult to recommend specifics with you just referencing accent chairs and a chaise which isn’t enough information. Will you and need more - armoire, desk, bookcases, reading, yoga area, how much seating, etc. Think about all the pieces you need to make the room functional and then a floor plan will help. The colors and accessories will be the last part of the equation...See MoreInterior design style? Williams Sonoma, Hamptons, New England...
Comments (7)I'd say traditional with coastal influence. There's traditional New England coastal, there's traditional Hamptons coastal, there's traditional California coastal, traditional Florida coastal, etc. Traditional can have various influences depending on the region, for example Southern, and it can be furthered distilled by location -- traditional New Orleans, traditional Charleston. Designer Phoebe Howard does a lovely job with traditional Southern and with Florida coastal styles, https://www.amazon.com/Coastal-Blues-Howards-Decorating-Colors/dp/1419724800 https://www.amazon.com/Joy-Decorating-Southern-Style-Howard-ebook/dp/B07HC76K66 I do find it helpful for my own interests to identify styles and items, so that I can read and learn more, with designers' books, their Instagrams, in magazines etc. Blogger Cote de Texas just did a before-and-after feature on Nancy Meyers' house which was recently updated by Mark Sikes, https://cotedetexas.blogspot.com/2022/07/nancy-meyers-housethen-and-now.html Might be worth taking a look at Mark Sikes's books, "Beautiful: All-American Decorating and Timeless Style" and "More Beautiful: All-American Decorating and Timeless Style II". Here's a story on Nancy Meyers' set designer Beth Rubino, talking about the interiors of "It’s Complicated" and "Something’s Gotta Give", https://fredericmagazine.com/2021/06/nancy-meyers-set-design/ Here's a recent blog post on a house in traditional Hamptons coastal, https://www.theglampad.com/2022/07/an-all-american-home-in-the-hamptons.html...See Moregroveraxle
