Comments (18)Also, the first time 2 years ago, the tiles' peel-off paper had word Stainmaster etc and large arrows to show the intended direction to orientate the tile. This week we bought the same exact product and there is lettering but no arrows, so we used the words to orientate the tiles in the same direction. Two years ago I researched and there were reasons to have it face the right direction, you can check it out or decide yourself. All else was the same in quality. Important to acclimate the temperature, several reasons but especially because if the tile is cool the paper doesn't release as easily from the adhesive on the tile back and you end up picking at the paper. ugh! Not counting floor and workspace prep, the 8x16 kitchen took the 2 of us about 9 hours, with husband peeling and doing measurments & any cuts and bringing the tiles to me. My job was making sure no 2 identical tiles were next each other, setting them where I wanted them for husband to pick up and peel them, and I layed the tiles as close and tight as humanly possible. Beverages and good music helps you keep your sense of humor. Take pictures throughout, you'll be glad....See MoreWill a steam mop clean grout?
Comments (5)Ironically I just cleaned all of my tile and grout today in preparation for an appraisal and I have found that the very best way to do it is to use a Magic Eraser sponge! It does require being on your hands and knees but it is super fast and you don't have to apply a lot of pressure- and no product is needed- just water and the eraser. I have found eraser sponges that are better than Mr. Clean on Amazon, and for much less- the ones I have are from the company www.honest-f.com and they last a lot longer and don't disintegrate until the bitter end. This truly is the best way to clean grout (and tile) and I have tried a ton of different methods, as I hate dirty grout! I do have a steam cleaner too and it does nothing to my grout. The eraser cleans the tiles themselves really well, too- not that you want to do this regularly, though, it is not a fun way to clean your floors, but when you need to really, really get it all clean, this is the way to go!...See MoreTec Power Grout or Mapei Flexcolor CQ Grout?
Comments (13)We spoke to the manufacturer and they basically said that this happens and it is the nature of the product. That said, the likely cause was the contractor mixing the new bag I bought with an old bag he had. TEC advised not to use old product or bags that have been open for any length of time. They did suggest using distilled water instead of tap water, but I doubt that was the issue. I made sample boards with tap water and didn’t have any discoloration issues. TEC sent me their grout colorant and I applied 2 coats. This was very tedious and took at least 5 hours for a small powder room to paint every grout line with a tiny brush. However, it did work and nicely covered up the white spots. You can see the painted colorant on the first pic and the pic with the toilet is before the colorant (notice all the white spots). I was very irritated and stressed by all of this, but was relieved the colorant worked and it didn’t have to be retiled....See MoreUser
