Which do you install first, Appliances or Countertop?
Comments (16)This is very very helpful. Thank you so so much. With the exception of the Miele Dishwasher, all the other appliances (36" Wolf Range, 42" Wolf Vent Hood, Miele Refrigerator, and Sharp Drawer Microwave) have been delivered and are on site. There is an island in front of the range and the width of the walkway between the island and the range is around 40" so I was a little bit concerned about trying to slide in the range once the counter top was installed and if there was enough room for easily maneuvering it in place. The appliance store was going to send their installers to install all the appliances, but at appliance delivery time, the installer came along and said that they do not install 42" wide vent hoods, so I am stressed out about finding someone to install just the hood for me. I just didn't need this hassle in an already extremely difficult remodel that I am going through. Any helpful hints (or something that I should watch out for) about vent hood will be greatly appreciated as I am clueless about that part of the job. And does anyone tile behind the range (heat considerations) or is drywall good enough?...See MoreAppliances with creamy white cabinets? Or choose counters first?
Comments (14)I wish that appliance manufacturer's would give us different options. How I would love to see a bronze refrigerator. JennAir had bronze in their line up several years ago but it wasn't well received. It must have been too reminiscent of the old coppertone appliances. Bisque and almond never quite hit the mark and are almost impossible to find. I would think that bisque or almond would look better with creamy white than bright white. I am tired of ss but that is what we are going with due to the lack of other options. Black would have been too dark and I didn't feel white would look good....See Morewhich comes first: counter-height windows or counters?
Comments (5)I put in a counter height window after the cabinets were in, so any necessary shimming wouldn't mess up the height. The window should be installed before the counters are templated if you want the countertop to extend onto the window sill area. You need to know the exact heights of everything ahead of time so it all matches up. It is nice for the counter to extend onto the sill but unfortunately, it snowed the day of my window install (the only snow of the whole year) and the counters were templated before the window was put in. So I ended up with the counter being installed the same day as the window. Talk about chaos. I still haven't filled in that tiny strip of sill because I am still irritated about the chain of events. I am hoping when I get soapstone counters put in my bathroom, they can add the strip to the counter. Since soapstone has an invisible seam, it should look okay. It was one of the few things I paid for because I was nervous about the height of the cutout but it was not a big deal for the guy that did the work. by the way; shezzy; I love your butcher block piece!!!!...See MoreProgress - next step counter top install
Comments (6)Looking at the photos again reminds me that we need to figure out how to finish the microwave cabinet. Lol..right now it has a drawer front attached to a forvarva drawer, but it's sitting on the drawer to low. There is also another drawer that was bought to go in the pantry sitting on the shelf above the lower drawer. I have a 5" drawer front, but we think we may just put a 15" there instead. We will definately replace the bottom drawer with a maximera. I didn't put it there because the drawer is my dish towels and dish clothes. But maximera's are easier to install and are worth the extra $ over all....See Morehea00
