Bought our dream home, but thinking the exterior could use a pick me up. Considered limewashing the brick white...any thoughts?

The brick is fine. Leave well enough alone. It's the best surface on your house.

The windows need serious attention. The frames are too thick (and white) and the 3 on the right have what looks like filler above them--as though somebody bought the wrong replacement windows.

Address the windows and landscaping, and enjoy your new home.

Nice looking brick. I wouldn't touch it. Don't take a no maintenance product and turn it into a long term maintenance issue.

#1: The shutters are not appropriate for the size of your windows. I would remove and not replace them.

#2: Would you consider changing the color of the siding? A darker tone that works better with the brick (gray, taupe, blue, etc.) would make the house seem more cohesive.

#3: Windows look fairly new so I would leave them as is.

#4: I would remove the large shrub/tree in front of the triple window and replace it with something smaller. Actually most of the landscaping looks older so I would think about replacing everything but the tree at the right corner of the house.

#5: Can't tell from your picture but I would paint the door a color that makes it a focal point and draws the eye to the entrance.

Most of these are fairly inexpensive changes. A more expensive one would be adding a porch over the front door to add some depth to the facade.

Here are close up pictures of the area in front of the porch. We can’t move the driveway now because we spent our whole budget on the renovation. So we’d appreciate any ideas of things we could do in meantime. We probably won’t be able to do anything to driveway for at least 5 years.

The color is a custom mix. I always loved the color of a certain house in a nearby neighborhood, so when I saw the owner working in the yard I stopped and asked her about the color. She said it was a custom mix from the previous owner, and sent me to the local paint shop where they had the color on file. If I can find a can with the details, I'll post a pic. It's the perfect greige. Not too gray, not too beige, and it looks great in all lighting.

I never like black and navy together so white windows and the bonus is they cost less.Good call on the shutter removal and IMO a much nicer front door in a color would be good.Of course the landscaping and right now until you decide to do a porch all across the front I would do window boxes on the lower windows , you should probably get a mock up of how the windows will handle wider trim since the top can’t have that done and BTW make sure all the windows are the same and if you want a bit more modern look forget the grids. You could still decide a lighter color for the siding and then the black windows it will then have more of a modern farmhouse loo

It seems to me that you have a couple of style features on this exterior that are in opposition. I know it has the outlines of a garrison colonial, but the modern windows and the siding obscure that and really make me think more modern, at first glance. The colonial front door doesn't match. Even though it wouldn't be your first or even second choice, I would go with that modern vibe. Change the front door to a more modern look, along with the light (get a larger one), house numbers, and mailbox when you can. Ditch the wreath and replace it and the bench with something simpler - maybe one or two colorful, large, modernish planters. maybe put those new house numbers & mailbox where the wreath is If you can afford it, consider painting all sides of the house a medium dark blue (yes, aluminum can be painted) - otherwise, do just match the taupe.

Change the siding color take off the silly shutters and leave the brick alone. IMO painting exterior brick is the best way to devalue your house. I would use a soft gray/ green for the siding and then get to work on some landscaping
