We always hated the garrison overhang on our house so we decided to hide it. The trim painting isn't fully finished yet but I decided to share these pictures. Now we are looking for landscaping ideas! Thinking about wrapping bed in front of porch around the left side of the house,

Comments (34)I have a pretty good idea of the price of windows. 8k cheap - 20k mid/expensive. And the roof would be about 7k shingles and (not entirely sure yet) but I think around 10-11k metal. Gutters will be what we put into them. But we need and will use windows and a new roof and a painted house. I mean, it will take a while to pay back in heating costs, but in the winter sitting by the front window, there is a gusty cold zone. And I'm in a mid-atlantic area, I'm not going to start covering my windows in plastic like my VT relatives! But the porch would just be cosmetic unless we actually put enough into it that we would actually use it. Heating, cooling, more windows, bug protection, lighting, finishes. And I'd rather have that someday in the far future if we ever choose to invest in it in the back of the house which is very private. Believe me, I know, before we even closed I had mocked up this but we tabled the idea after much discussion: And the typical simple extended porch you'd see with with a colonial doesn't excite me either. Sure it might not be that expensive, but why should I invest in turning 'bleh' (to me) into 'that's ok.' I'd rather invest in something I really like. Comments (6)I don't like the long shutters on the lower windows. they look odd. And the ones on the other window are too small and really shouldn't be on the triple window. I'd remove all of the shutters on the lower level. You could always remove the shutters and do window trim in the black. As for the coloring, it will look like this (and doing white siding) but this black and white looks sharp because this home has a black roof. you don't. so keep that in mind when choosing your colors porch posts, like this If you want to change the entry way area: if you're thinking about painting the brick (Romabio) it could look like this: Another painted brick and porch redo. Along with a nice walkway and flower bed This before picture will mimic the colors that you want to do to your home. This way, when we get the itch, we can change the door color! And YES, I would definitely consider shutters in the future! Comments (3)Great home and yard to work with. Keeping in mind your current roof color and siding, I would keep the shutters and add some to the bottom window in a pacific blue color and your door in a Terra cotta color. A white carriage style garage door. if replacing the garage door isn't an option paint it white and get the magnetic handles and hinge decorative accents for it until then. Add white trellises over the garage and across the bottom of the second story. Flowers (lavender and rose trees) to line the driveway. a good flowering ground cover at the base if your tree and a mix of flowers to by the house to fill in flowers beds....See More

4 years agoHere are close up pictures of the area in front of the porch. We can’t move the driveway now because we spent our whole budget on the renovation. So we’d appreciate any ideas of things we could do in meantime. We probably won’t be able to do anything to driveway for at least 5 years.
