Living Room Decor - Urgent Help Request!

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><md>Hi all,
I have shared pics of my brother’s living room - as you may notice, the room is pretty bare and un-inviting at this point.

Could someone please help us with the following:

- TV wall mounted?

- TV wall-mounted above the fire-place?

- Coffee Tables - Style and number meaning do we need a set of 3 including side-tables?
(The Space is small so it may make it very crowded)

- How to accessorize the mantle in lieu of the TV?

- Shape of the Rug? Round or Square?

- Colour Scheme of the accessories / rug?
(We are leaning towards turquoise - Is that a good choice?)

- Where to place the wall-art, if any and the style of it?

Its noteworthy that the place is currently occupied by some bachelors (soon to be married) and they occasionally have families come over as guests -
We would like to decorate this space in a way that it livens it up and makes it welcoming!!!

If some ideas can be provided over the next couple of days, that would be greatly appreciated!

This layout is identical to my family room, I have some ideas. You could mount the tv on the wall where it’s at now but you might consider a longer tv stand. I would also move the couch so it’s lined up more with the tv. Think the clock would look better on the wall near the staircase. Find a large piece of art and lean it in the corner above fireplace. From there you can bring out colors from art with pillows, blankets, etc. Is there any chance the sofa along the wall could go anywhere else? It seems a bit out of place here. As far as a coffee table I would say something round. Side tables don’t necessarily need to be the same but they need to go together in some way, if that makes any sense. For a rug I would say square would be a better bet. Plants are a great way to liven up a room. Sorry for such a long post, I hope this helps.

Do you own or is this a rental? The pix look a little stretched like realty ones. Since there is a rad between the doors, forget putting TV there. I'd keep the dining close to the kitchen and put the sitting/TV area to focus on the long wall. Start with the fun project of finding a knockout chandelier to hang from that pretty ceiling. Is there a fridge under the microwave? I see only one wall outlet behind the door and one above the counter, so you'll have to use extension cords and cord covers along the baseboards to have enough lighting here. Consider floating your sofa facing the long wall and TV. Then use a drop leaf table behind it for dining. You'll be able to open it all the way for entertaining. Anchor your seating area with a rug 2-3 feet wider than your sofa.

I would start out with a large, beautiful rug in warm colors (terracotta or red Oriental rug mixed with other colors. I feel sectionals often confine you in how to organize your room. I would choose a fabric couch in a neutral, not too dark color (not gray, which is on its way out and not a warm color), and add two chairs in a different color or at least a different material and style. Try to keep the height of these pieces similar. Two end tables in wood (they don't have to be the same, but make sure the heights are fairly similar and a metal and glass coffee table would look great, with table lamps or floor lamps even if you have overhead lighting, which is always harsh. Pick colors from the rug for pillows and you'll have a beautifully coordinated living space. Books, good paintings and some tall plants will add warmth and personality to your room. People too often don't add these elements and then wonder why their rooms look bare and cold. This may be more colorful than you want to go. and this is a small rug because there is carpeting underneath, but it gives you the idea of neutral furniture and how it can be made more lively with accessories, pillows, coffee table styling etc.

Hi Sam Pan- I agree with you that the red chandelier in the dining area has to go. I also agree with you that the massive metal wall sculpture has to go, it will dominate any chandelier you put in the living room. The living room and dining room chandeliers do not have to be the same, they should just have the same feeling, the same metal. You can do your round one with dark metal in the living room , and one that looks like an atom in the dining room, or vice versa. These are both from Restoration hardware, since you want to get your other chandelier from there, and come in different sizes and finishes.

Hello friends. I am afraid I need your help once again! We have finally settled on a new sofa, accent chairs and the place we are getting all of this from has agreed to also throw in a rug for us if I happen to like one from their suppliers. I fell in love with a rug they have as well as accent pillows I think will match well. We have also decided on the color of the accent chairs and the model of the sofa. My issue : I CANNOT decide on a sofa color!!! Everyone is telling me to do light grey but I am afraid it won't go with the rug I like. I am swayed towards a white sofa (it is more off white, I will post a picture of the swatch bellow) in order to flow with my chairs and everything else. I had spoken to the designer who did our plan and she said I can go with a white sofa no problem. Everyone is saying do light grey. I know I can pick another rug but I am SO In love with the one I have chosen and I think it will make the space... Can anyone advise me on what to do? I do like a light grey sofa but I also really like the colors in the rug...We have to order this week in order to make it in time for Christmas and I am very undecided. You have all been so helpful and if you aren't utterly sick of me, I would appreciate the advice! Try putting the TV above the fireplace for maximum viewing angles. An end table for the sectional, but not the other couch. In front of the single couch, try an upholstered ottoman with a tray for setting drinks, etc. Move the clock to a smaller wall and try a large mirror or artwork on the wall that the TV is against now. If you want a table along that wall where the TV is, try a sofa table that is not very deep so it doesn't come out too far from the wall. Keep the sofa table open (not a cabinet) so it doesn't make the room feel smaller. A floor lamp in the corner where the sofa sits behind the stairs would work well.

TV wall mounted on the same it is on now at seated viewing height.

Wider console beneath it, it should be tall enough that the TV is no more than 5" above it

No rug on the carpet that is there

Personally I don't care for the sectional AND sofa in this small room. Do they both have to stay?

Coffee table will depend on if the sectional and/or sofa stay and where they are placed

Curtain panels the same color as the trim

I would leave the mantle bare for now

There is no wall space for art

Pillows & a throw on sectional/sofa probably not turquoise too bright
