Anyone else having problems with the new advertising?
Comments (21)Sue, those underlined words are exactly what I'm talking about. It is a 'legitimate' link and the advertisers are paying iVillage for the use of the site. We were warned it was going to happen - look at the What's New section right over the top of the message list - and even told how to opt out of the ads. (Click on the connection under What's New that says "Please read this important announcement about new advertising.") But it's not working and we are not able to decline the ads right now. Tamara says they are working on it. Although I find the underlined connections annoying, I REALLY hate that someone looking at one of my posts might think I condone or even promote a company because there's a link to them in my post! But all of these links are automatically inserted at key words and it's all done by a company called IntelliTXT. I want to be able to opt out of seeing them AND having them attached to my posts, but I don't think that's going to be possible. Kate...See Moredid anyone else get an e-mail from Houzz?
Comments (31)I don't know how anyone can go to houzz.com and view anything. What I get is the entire page covered with the option to sign in through Facebook or sign up through email. I can get no where. If I click on a topic like kitchens at the top it goes to a page that again has a huge sign in banner across the page. I suspect some may be automatically getting in because they have Facebook. Even if I click on a link someone posts to view the page can not be viewed due to the login banner. I just get so turned off by things like that, makes me not interested in the effort. If they let me look around there's a very good chance I would join but not that way. Not getting another app for something I can't view. Got the email....See MoreGarden Web and Houzz
Comments (80)I think Houzz is located just 20 minutes up the Peninsula from me in Palo Alto. If they have their customer service locally, that would be the Pacific Time zone. As for the name thing, almost EVERYONE got that message about their name already being taken. Somehow I think there is some kind of doubling effect that goes on when you register with GW. I was absolutely not going to give up my online name so I wrote to customer service and insisted that I am the real, original, one-and-only Rosefolly, and they gave me back my name. I think the same kind of thing is going on with many GW users. I believe that if it is important to you (it was to me) and if you persist, you can get your name back. Rosefolly...See MoreWhere to complain about Houzz recent change to GardenWeb Forum
Comments (11)I don't think complaining is going to affect their decision...or might produce an even more obnoxious way to try to make $$ off a free to use site. I think they probably spend huge $$ on creating something that won't be affected by adblockers, but perhaps the adblockers will catch up and make it possible to block. As annoying as it is if you have to LOOK at it, I find it completely easy to just scroll past. If it's in my view while reading something, I just enlarge the screen or scroll to a place so it isn't visible. I think some people who say they don't see it, might just have not noticed it, with all the visual clutter on Houzz sites. If users don't click on the ads, they will be removed as not effective, but the next "plot" for creating advertising $$ might be even more obnoxious....See More- 6 years ago
