Comments (13)I had a similar experience last week. I saw the caterpillars, lots of them, but could never see a chrysalis. Last week, I saw one one my hollyhock, which was at least three feet from the butterfly bush, and wondered how it got there. I was watching it for a few days when we had quite a storm one night, and it was gone the next day - probably blown/washed away. You'd think that with the stripes and colors they would stand out like sore thumbs, but they have the ability to just disappear on those plants. Check underneath the individual leaves. Just shows what you can do if you have a sharp eye out! And this one is so much better for your collection than a "chef" picture--and the colors are just right.
